Was anyone on these boards in that big accident on I-75? Did I hear correctly that 6 Canadians were injured or killed?

What a terrible thing. Here I was trying to decide which route to take.. someone talks about fog.. and then this...

Yes that was my first thought to...any Canadians involved? I haven't heard up to this point but I do know that 4 people died.:(

My heart goes out to everyone involved and now I'm starting to have second thoughts re:driving down next year.

What really is the safest route to take as I've heard the fog can be so dangerous? Those poor people....it's so sad that most of them were tourists on their way to Florida.:(

What I just heard was that a couple and one child from Canada are among the dead. Oh boy. This is horrid. I knew a ton of people going down this week.

:( Sandie

Oh Sandie that's so sad.:(

We have planned on going down March 22nd next year but I'm really not too sure now after this tragedy.I'm an awful passenger anyway even at the best of times.I felt so sick when I heard about this.:( Flying does have it's advantages doesn't it?

Flying does have it's advantages. I'm getting nervous about this. First ... my experience with CRO yesterday... then hearing about the accident.. and me.. 4 1/2 weeks away from taking that same road to Disney. Oy.

Maybe planning to leave a little later in the mornings down that way giving the fog a chance to burn off would be a good idea. I wish you a safe and a wonderful trip Sandie! :sunny:

Thanks. :) Actually... that's not a bad idea. I'll try and time it right. We're leaving Guelph at 6pm in the evening, and planning to drive straight thru until around 2pm the next day, and find a hotel to stay at with a pool.. and just rest. Then leave very early the next morning, so that we can arrive at WDW in the am. What time is fog at its worst?

:) Sandie

I'm really not sure about when the fog would lift, but I would imagine around 10AM or so.( Just thinking what it's like in Ontario)Hopefully folks that have driven down will be able to answer that better?

I was checking out CNN and all the deaths occured in the North bound lanes there were 4 fatalities in the accident and the crash was around 125 vehicles just for your info

What I think you heard was that six Canadians were killed in a plane crash in Cuba, a small plane with about seventeen people. :( Driving or flying it really doesn't matter, accidents can happen anywhere. We are heading down to WDW April 19 2002 for 1 week at Wdw and 1 week Disney Magic cruise. We are driving down I 75 and returning by the center route 77-79. Have driven several times, just make sure that you have good maps, take plenty of breaks, carry snacks etc, relax and have fun. You cannot worry about all the world's problems, after 9/11 you have to make the best of it and go and enjoy life :D :D

Junior, I totally agree with you...

You really can't worry about everything... accidents DO happen, wether their on a plane or in a car.. that's why they're called accidents. :) Car accidents occur every day, it's a risk each of us takes every morning on the way to work. Just becasue something happens on the road to Disney, dosen't mean it hasn't happened before or won't happen again. BUT it also dosen't mean it WILL happen. The odds are very slim. Take care and be safe on the roads, staying away from any wackos weaving in and out of the lanes, and you will have a safe trip down to Disney...

Although, for the record, flying is still statisticaly safer. :) And is faster, which is why I do it..

Cheers all!

Hi Guys: You know sometimes we have fog here in ontario that comes in the evening and is there thru the night. I don't know about night driving, my hubby is leary about it too, for different reasons, deer, fog, if you get car trouble, who will be stopping out in the middle of nowhere, even with a cell phone.

I think I read somewhere that there is a stretch along l75 in tennessee I think where a company puts out some sort of chemical and when it mixes with dense air it also makes fog, there was a terrible accident there a few years ago. It might be in that book driving down l75, I am not sure. I don't think this is what happened this time though as it was in georgia.

But if it was foggy I think I would pull over somewhere, or stay at the motel til it was later in the morning.

Deb.

We hite absolutely terrible fog, combined with smoke just outside of Valdosta, Georgia two years ago this week. It happened around 6:00 a.m. (after driving since noon the previous day), and we were stopped along the road for about 45 minutes. I won't soon forget the smell of the smoke and the eerie feeling of being surrounded by fog in the dark.
