my husband and I will both be using ECVs on our trip. he is diabetic and other issues where the amount of walking would tire him quickly. I had an ankle injury last year and know the amount of walking and standing would be too much. We both get around ok in everyday situations. But Disney has ALOT more walking.
we are planning to stay at POP and wondering if we should book an accessible room?
parking The scooters is 1 concern
also I use a shower bench at home since I’m not supposed to stand without shoes on. Does Disney have mobile ones they can put in any room? Would hate to take an accessible room so it wasn’t available for someone who really needed it.
any advice would be appreciated

First of all, 2 ECVs should fit in the rooms at POP just fine; we have had other members here who regularly charged 2 ECVs overnight in the room, every night. If you feel the need for extra space, call Housekeeping upon arrival and ask them to take out any extra chairs/tables in the room. For your personal safety and peace of mind, I strongly recommend keeping (both) your ECVs in your room at night and charge them overnight, every night.

Accessible rooms at WDW are not any larger than any other room at that hotel. The difference is the bathroom layout for the roll-in shower bathrooms.

If you require a walk-in/roll-in shower room, then by all means, you should request it! As long as you have a valid reason to need that accommodation, then you have the exact same rights as any other Guest at Disney World to reserve that room. Please don't feel guilty at all. Roll-in showers at WDW have a fold-down seat, so that if you have another family member who does not want or need the seat, they can fold it up and out of the way while bathing.

My personal advice for those who can still walk into the shower is to bring a length of this (in the 24" width) or similar to lay down on the shower floor. I also have a second length of it that I lay on the floor outside the shower. Not only does it help prevent falls from slippery floors, but it is washable (I pop mine into large size lingerie/mesh laundry bags and wash on cold or warm, then hang to dry) and reusable when traveling. You can also lay it in the bottom of bathtubs as well.

If you don't want to bring along the anti-slip mesh, (it rolls up, or folds compactly for travel) then you can lay down extra bath towels on the floor of the shower, and outside the shower for safety. Just make sure not to block the floor drain(s) in the shower and bathroom floors. This also works well in a bathtub.

Hope this helps!

This is an important point. And with the larger bathroom space, it can mean a little less space in the bedroom space. Now specifically at POP, if you only need 1 bed you can leave the Murphy bed closed which allows plenty of space to fit 2 ECVs. Even if you use the 2nd bed there is space to park/charge 2 ECVs.

As to the shower chair…yes you can request one. It may or may not be the style you prefer and some may be the worse for wear. I recommend renting one if you can’t bring one. Orlando Medical Rentals has a few different models available.

Great idea for the shower! I actually have some of that that I use for exercising. But DH bought me several feet more than I need-now it will go on future WDW trips with me-Thanks!
