Another question, am I correct in saying with the family stateroom w/verandah with the sofa bed open you don't have to the verandah? Do I have to climb over the bed to sit outside on the verandah?

You're thinking of the Murphy bed, which comes out of the wall. People say it gets in your way if it is down but honestly we never had an issue. There's a foot or two to walk around it, but you can stow it yourself we learned, you don't have to wait for your room host to stow it for you. I guess we never needed to be out on the verandah when someone was sleeping in it, but it's definitely do-able. Wouldn't stop me from booking that category room. Just a note, not all deluxe family verandas have a Murphy bed, but the ones that sleep 5 will.

P.S. it's not a fold out sofa bed, it's a single day bed .

Yep to above......but we find the Murphy bed a pain to climb over. We had other stuff stored where we could not walk around it.

I would still book that again thought if I needed to but I much prefer two cabins (oceanview) as opposed to one verandah cabin. Love having twice the space, two bathrooms, etc.

OP - I think you've mentioned you are in a concierge stateroom on the Magic. That might be a sofa bed, I'm not positive. I've seen a picture, and don't recall that there was much space between the opened sofa bed and the desk.

Enjoy your cruise!

We have never had a problem in our regular verandah rooms because the couch flips to make a bed and doesn't actually open out. However, if concierge has a couch that opens out -- we have run into problems on other cruise lines with the same set up and yes, once it was open you could barely get by to get to the verandah door. After the first night we just ask our room steward to show us how to open it, but leave it closed when turning down the room in the evening so we can use the couch until bed time.

This isn't my picture, but I believe it is a concierge room on the Magic with the sofa bed open:

Don't know if you're talking about a room on the Dream class ships, but here's a couple of pictures. There is a bit of room, awkward, but not inaccessible:

Concierge V class room on Dream- sofa bed open, no access to balcony. But in a deluxe family with both murphy bed and sofa bed in use, I was able to get to balcony just as pictured above.

I believe OP will be on the Magic Bahamas cruise out of NYC with the WDW port stop.

Stayed on the Dream, concierge class V stateroom in May. Both of my kids slept on the sofa bed. DH and I had to climb over the sofa bed to get to the balcony but no big deal from my point of view. It was so awesome to sit outside at night with the kiddos sleeping and just relax watching the water go by!
