Access to TOTWL for resale buyers

To put this finally to bed, whilst most learned members on here haven't done it, some people have still been giving misinformation that resale buyers cannot access TOTWL. I had one back and forth on this only the other day with someone on a forum. This winds me up a bit as it is seen as one of the major 'perks' of ownership.
I just completed a resale and logged onto my account. The following is clearly stated:

New purchasers of a Disney Vacation Club Membership on or after April 4, 2016, who do not purchase their ownership interest directly from Disney still have access to the opportunities listed below, by showing a copy of your Membership Identification:

Pool Hopping
DVD Rental
Access to Top of the World Lounge.

When you click on the 'membership identification' which is a link, it brings up an online card which they have now changed. It clearly states now on the card which has your name, membership number and expiry on it - it lasts 3 months at a time- (wish I could include a picture but I am struggling so I have just copied and pasted the text)-

My Membership Identification
Just show a printed copy or screenshot—along with a valid photo ID—to access your benefits.

This identification will expire 3 months from today.

With this identification, you can enjoy:
  • Access to Top of the World Lounge
  • DVD rentals
  • Pool hopping
Offerings subject to change and to availability. View important details.

Hope this helps anyone who is being told you cannot get into the lounge as you need a members' card- you don't, you need to just take a screenshot of this. I suspect they have put TOTWL actually on it now to prevent confusion with cast members.

TOTWL is paid for with BLT owners dues so all DVC owners are invited.

yes Bill you have consistently given that info, which I have repeated (you are a font of knowledge on here), but others wouldn't accept it, saying you won't get in without a membership card.

Many readers don't scan more than 3 posts down so everything needs to be repeated often. :-)

I haven't seen much recently arguing that resale buyers can't access but the membership card is an actual point. What may be mistaken is that the virtual card is also a membership card. It will be needed.

You don't get a membership card resale now, just the virtual one - that is what you take (screenshot will do, it says on it you just take that as per text above) which is what I think you are saying. Some members are still telling people on 'Should I buy resale or direct as I want access to TOTWL' type threads that it isn't included.

Yes, that is a virtual "card".

As I said, I've missed anyone recently stating that resale doesn't get access to TOTWL. Thought that had already been put to rest but we'll see if this does it now. ;)

I don't know where the whole "resale doesn't get a membership card" rumor started. As far as I know, resale members do still get a card. It's just a different color. Sometimes. And most CM's won't know the difference.

Not sure resale gets a card other than the virtual card now Snoop. It looks to me like they have possibly changed the process. Initially post April 16 there was apparently a button on the website to order a physical card. A few people reported receiving blue ones. Now that option to order the card has gone. The new virtual card specifically lists TOTWL on it, which I don't think it did before. I'll let people know if I get a white physical card in the post but I'm not holding my breath. Looks to me to have been initially badly implemented but now they have decided resale just gets this clearer virtual card?

Any reports of anyone getting dining discounts with white cards? Anyone ever seen/ have a picture of the mythical non virtual white card? If yes please post it up.

Based upon my last trip to BLT, the only places you'll need that card is to get the merchandise discount, access to TOTWL, and access to the Epcot lounge. When we ate at Disney, and paid with the magic band, EVERY restaurant took off the DVC discount without even asking us first.

Music to my ears if they just take off discounts anyway.

When we spoke to MS recently to order a card they told us cards are not being provided for these post 4/4 resale contracts, and to just use the virtual card.

However, just tried to order it online now and was able to. It showed a blue card, possibly due to the fact that our other contracts are pre-4/4.

I frequently get asked for membership card for dining discounts.

I don't mind that resale buyers get access to TOTW, but it does irk me that the "virtual" cards are accepted. They could easily be forged. Just move this to an affiliation on a magic band already.

That will be because you have contracts where you are entitled to the blue card. I don't even have the option to order a card and just have the virtual card.

How did they know you are a DVC member without even asking? Unless you meant you identified yourself as a DVC member, but they didn't ask for a membership card for confirmation.

I'd be interested in this, is it on the magic band?

It will be tied into your MB. We stayed on rented points and knew that obviously meant no DVC perks/discounts but at one restaurant in Epcot they scanned my MB to pay for our meal and the waiter said he would be right back as we hadn't received our discount for being DVC. He came back a few minutes later with a new discounted bill.
