Access to multiple rooms?

We will be having a family reunion with 18 people in 5 villas. Our family has 4 people so we only need access to our own room. But some of the other families will be split into 2 studios. Everyone will be on a reservation and will be getting a magic band.

My question is that years ago, we were able to get extra keys just to open the door to the different rooms. I think they did away with issuing key cards? Will we still be able to get a physical card since it doubt they can link multiple rooms to one magic band. The families that will be split into 2 studios will want to enter each other rooms for convenience.

Also we may upgrade to a one bedroom if available at 7 months. If so, we will want the others to have room access so they can use the kitchen and the washer/dryer even when we are not there.

Will DVC issue extra key cards for this purpose? We will be at BWV, if it makes a difference. We have not been at Disney since they went all magic band exclusive.

Thanks!

They have in the past but the easiest way to do it if none of the rooms have the dining plan was to add yourself or others to multiples rooms or even use middle or other names. We take a sharpie so we can identify the various rooms on the cards. I haven't done it using the bands, maybe someone else has experience with this issue using them.

Thanks for the advice but some rooms will be maxed at 4 per standard view studio as it is. Although I may be able to get a fifth name on the one bedroom if I do manage to upgrade. We won't be doing the dining plan for sure.

Just wondering if others have encountered this situation recently and how they managed it. I would imagine that many DVC members do multi room stays?

We've never had an issue actually even with the DP or if the occupancy was close, but the last time was just before the magic band's went into effect.

The Magic Bands might actually make things easier for your families. A single guest can have multiple magic bands that can be used interchangeably. I'm at BLT right now, and have 3 bands -- all will open the room door.

Disney sends a magic band for every guest in each room, so your reservations should be at the occupancy limit to get the most "free" bands. I'm doing a split visit, so received a band for each resort. I have an AP and received a band for that. More bands can also be purchased.

I have multiple bands from different trips before the family reunion. I'd imagine they would ALL work to open MY room. However, they would also have my tickets, FP+'s, charging privileges, etc on them, so I'm not sure how comfortable I would be to give it to a family member just to open my door? It would be nice to have a key card or magic band that is not linked to anyone but just to open doors...

Well, I have about 10 months until the family trip and I will be heading to the world in 10 days! Woohoo. I will ask at the front desk at that time or maybe read about how other families were able to handle the same situation.

In the past I have heard about the keying all the doors in the group the same way- so all the keys worked on all the rooms- you might want to ask and see if this or something similar is available. This would be the best bet for your situation as I am not sure if officially they can give someone who is not registered in the room an access card for the room as it could be used for people offsite and such to use for onsite access and stuff (not saying your family would do this).

the passes on your MBs wouldn't work for them, as they would still need the matching biometric (finger) scan to enter a park. & without your PIN, they would be unable to charge on your MBs.
giving them one of your previously used MBs is probably the most viable option if room-only keys are not possible (which I agree with PPs, is unlikely if already at the occupancy limit).

Yes, you can get a room card for each room and then provide them to the most trusted person in each of the other rooms. Due to previous issues with getting MB to work on the room doors, I now alway request and receive a room key/card for all my stays. It sometimes takes a manager/supervisor of the front desk to get it but they still have them.

That would be a great idea if available!! I will ask about it when at the resort this month in preparation of our future trip. Thanks for the idea. I would never have thought about it or even to ask if it was possible!

But this would only work for family trying to access my one bedroom for the kitchen or to do laundry. It still wouldn't address the families that will be split into multiple rooms and need to go back and forth. But good to know just in case. They can keep one of my extra bands in their room if need be.

Having all the rooms keyed the same or at least the ones between immediate families would be best. But I will definitely try to ask about getting a physical key card if the first option isn't possible.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond!
