I'm hearing a lot about this acai berry diet. Please tell me what you know about it. Have you used it? Is it just in addition to any diet, such as Weight Watchers? What are your thoughts about it? Thanks.....

First off, the acai berry should not be used as a weight loss supplement. Most of what you've heard about it is a scam. And all acai berry products are not equal. It's like those "green tea diets". While green tea is good for you, it won't make you lose the weight. The acai berry has a lot of antioxidents which can be great for your immune system and they now have juices and things that you can buy in the store. They are also full of vitamins and give you good energy. You really don't have to eat them as other fruits provide the same if not better nutrition but there's no reason why you shouldn't have them. But don't be fooled into thinking they are some weight loss miracle, there's no such thing.

But would it be something worthwhile/healthy to use in addition to a healthy diet? What would be your suggestion of something like that to get at the health food store? It's funny you mentioned the green tea diet. I was thinking this was another one of those "fads" along those same lines.....

It's certainly not bad for you but when you hear "acai berry diet" or "green tea diet" usually on the diet you don't eat much except for the berries or tea. However, when I wanted to lose some weight I found that drinking Green Tea or Oolong Tea was really great in helping me feel full or giving me some extra energy. But Acai berries are being sold as some miracle berry which they're not. You'd be fine eating blueberries, blackberries, rasberries, strawberries. Most berries are really good for and they will be much less expensive. The Acai berry is somewhat exotic so you're going to be charged a lot more for the product; it's a marketing scam.

I used to be vegan and am actually going to go that route again (my health significantly improves on that kind of diet) so I got all my nutrition from fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Just add some ripe berries and seeds (almonds, unsalted sunflower, pumpkin) and it will do wonders for your body :)

Thank you! You've given me more solid and useful information than I've been able to find about this!!! (You have me in the mood for raspberries and pistachios right now too!) :-)

No problem! A lot of times these "diets" rely on starvation or dehydration as a means of weight loss. Seriously, the fad diets that this country advertises perplex me. But there is so much conflicting information out there! Nuts and berries are the best healthy snack ever. Even though nuts are high in fat you NEED that fat, it's good fat! There's a notion in this country that if something is fat free it's good for you. Not true at all, fat is not the enemy! Up your good fat like avocados and nuts and you'll feel awesome and full for longer. If you need any more tips feel free to ask :)
