i'm looking for one to plug in the lighter with an additonal lighter opening and a regular plug if possible so husband can plug in his ipod recharger and i can plug in my battery charger when we go to non electric campsites( ok, I really want it for my coffee maker in the am too...roughing it is one thing, coffee fix is another :rotfl: )...anyone have one or know a good source for them? i found one for $40+( targus i think is the brand) which i thought was an ok price but the way it's configured i think you can only use one or the other at a time..
thanks

make sure you get one strong enough for a coffeemaker, they draw a lot of wattage, from what I found when I was looking for one, 400watt continuous draw is the most the normal car lighter/power outlet can handle, so I have a 400 watt continusou/800watt surge unit...

anything over 400watt continuous should be hardwired to your battery, then you should make sure you have a deep cycle battery etc.....

one easy way to have a lighter outlet and plug, is to get a lighter splitter, it plugs into the lighter and has 2 lighter outlets, I've seen splitters with as many as 4 outlets, however again you must be careful of the total amperage draw, or you'll just blow your fuse..

do a search for inverters , there are a few websites I found that explain the whole thing better than I can...
check out this sites FAQ section....power inverters

one other thing, I bought mine at pep boys for 25 dollars.... that's the cheapest I saw for a 400/800 unit..

thanks. i also put this on the camping board and they said the same thing about the coffee pot so maybe i'll just drag our stove or wait till we get to breakfast for coffee as this is a "no cooking" trip the splitter thing sounds good though as i;ve seen the just ac ones all over.

We picked ours up at Costco. Take it everywhere.
