we will be there tomorrow and the forecast is 99 for three straight days.

For afternoon breaks, where can we go to rest?

We have a VW camper and it's hot.

Is there any shade at the pool?

I'm getting worried.

I would go resort hopping and enjoy the ambience of the lobbies at the Poly, Contemp, Wilderness Lodge, and Grand Floridian. Use Disney transportation (buses, boats, monorail) to enhance the experience.

Enjoy a 15 minute sit break in each lobby. Browse the shops. Indulge in an ice cream bar or a Dole Whip (at the Poly). Relax.

Not much shade at the pool. IIRC there are a few umbrellas and the side over by the slide can get shade from the trees behind the walkway at some points in the afternoon. I'm sure these will be crowded though.

PS - one of my favorite places is the Golden Spike Room (or whatever it's called) over at Wilderness Lodge DVC. At the WL bus stop, follow the sidewalk down to the right and you can enter the door just fine. Walk forward into the small round lobby and the GSR is off to the right. Chairs, couches, a checkerboard, it's nice. (It had a fireplace burning when we were there in March - don't know if it would be burning in July). Bring a book or something else to do and enjoy. They have momentos and pictures from Walt's backyard railroad. It's pretty quiet too.

What Ed said.

We do this when we go down in the summer anyway. And I have a camper with A/C.

The Grand Floridian has a very nice lobby with big chairs. The 2nd floor has some nice shops and places to hang out. Wilderness Lodge has amazing places to hang out. Same with the Contemporary. All just a boat or monorail ride away.

I hope you have someway to cool the VW down at night. WDW doesn't cool down much this time of year, even at night.

Yikes! I feel your pain! We've had VW campers in the past and camping in the deep south in summer (LA for us) was 'not' fun!! Hope you can at least rest at night - they can really hold the heat!! :( We didn't have AC or fans.

We love the game room at the Contemporary. It is always a cool place to have some fun.

Guys, we went crazy. Drove to Walmart and bought an AC. It's currently macgyvered in the driver window.

But these suggestions are great and we will do them!

The check-in area by the overflow parking is also nice. Movies, checkers, wifi.

We are in loop 1500. Look for the aluminum foil! Will post a pic for your enjoyment.

1500 is the loop to get is you are popup or tent camping.

Inquiring minds want to know the site number. Some of us are very familiar with each site in 1500.

PS - hey AC works. At night it cools and provides a nice constant background/white noise.

That's not crazy. It's exactly what I would have done. :D

That should make things much more enjoyable.

We are in 1510.

It's not the shadiest but it's very private, toward the back. We have a vanagon so the tree made finding a spot where we could put out the awning a bit challenging. We like it.

Well you can claim it's a waterfront site with the canal off to the side there.

Although my favorite (which I have not gotten yet although I asked every time I booked a Tent site) is the one next to you, 1511. Good space to either side, pretty good shade, the canal behind you. I stayed in 1513, the one next to 1511 and 2 sites down from you, for my Thanksgiving trip several years ago.

Have fun!

I requested loop 1500 in online check in. Do you have any recommendations for shady sites, or near the CS? I'll put site requests in the fax I send the week before we arrive.

Would love to see a picture of the vw set up at the site

Will post! The only other site not shady is the one two down from us. I have terrible Internet (thanks, Disney) so I can't look and we are at Epcot. So if you are standing in site 1510 w your back to the loop, the one next to it is great but the one next to that is sunny. Will try to remember to look at the number when we get back. And it WAS a waterfront site last night. Crazy storm yesterday!!

Go for any edge you can get, even if it's antiquated. :)

It amazes me that I can still "Fax" things but you cannot email a "Scanned" (at better quality too).

Then on the other side, bigger businesses that no longer accept faxes when so many other smaller ones do.

We did 1514 in 2010. It seems to have more sun now then when we had it. If you're looking for space, 1514 has it.
