Alabama to Orlando - Trip Over and Down to RPR
Our Cast
Me DH (41), DW(40), DD(15), DD(7), DD(5), DMIL(61) and DFIL(63).
I've been researching our trip nightly on this site since my in-laws first mentioned it during Thanksgiving. Our original plan was to stay in a Days Inn on International Blvd and visit the area the week after Christmas. I read many posts and posted a few questions concerning crowds during that time period. I quickly came to the realization that the best situation was staying at an onsite resort. We decided a three night stay at Universal would suffice for this trip. I had four other nights to plan to complete the week. We decided to drive to St. Augustine from the Mobile area and enjoy the area for a couple days. Through the knowledge I gained from this site, I researched priceline.com and biddingfortravel.com to find suitable lodging for the St. Augustine area. I won a $55.00 a night bid on two rooms at Rennaissance Resort at the World Golf Village. This resort is very nice and well worth the price we paid. They treated us like any other customer and gave us connecting balcony rooms with a good view of the pool. The first day (12-27), we explored the World Golf Village which includes an IMAX theater, PGA Hall of Fame, and many shops and restaurants. We ate a late lunch at the Murray Bros Caddyshack restaurant (nice atmosphere, adequate food) and watch the Black Stallion at the IMAX. The second day (12-28), we explored the historical district in St. Augustine - the fort, Old Town, a scenic boat cruise, and the Ripley's Museum. We ate a nice lunch at Harry's near King St. The restaurant is a cajun style restaurant with great food and a haunted bathroom an the second floor. The next day (12-29), we drove down A1A so the girls could experience the Atlantic Ocean and the east coast beaches. We stopped a few miles south of St. Augustine and drove on the beach. The girls played in the sand and stuck their feet in the ocean. We resume our trip to Orlando along A1A to Palm Coast and caught I-95 to I-4. Our first night in the Orlando area, we stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Altamont/Maitland area. We wanted to try the Pirates Adventure dinner show but it was sold out. We decided to try Arabian Nights (discounted tickets $20 per adult and $13 per child) since the girls really enjoyed the Black Stallion movie. Overall the food was average, the service was good, and the show was entertaining. The two younger DDs were completely involved in the show and barely ate their food. Everyone really enjoyed the night and we returned to the Courtyard around 11:00pm. All of us went to sleep quickly despite our excitement of our three night stay at Universal starting the next day.
