Absorbency of disposable training pants?

Looking for some advice from those parents who have used pull ups and those type of products. My boys will not be potty trained for our trip next month and are 4.5 (and in case someone feels the need to make a comment they are special needs). Our last trip to wdw we had some nasty comments and looks about them not being potty trained when I used the changing tables in the restrooms so I am going to take them into a stall to change them standing. Are there any pull up disposables they absorb as much as a diaper? They drink tons at wdw and wet pretty heavily. They are on the thinner side if they helps. I tried the pull on huggies diapers (not sure if they even still make them) and they leaked. Anyone have any advice?

If you're concerned about absorbency, why can't you just continue using their regular diapers if you have to change them anyway? If you use pull ups you will have to take off their pants and shoes to change them whereas you only need to pull down their pants to their knees to change with a regular diaper?

I can but they are not always cooperative with the standing change and the diapers don't get on correctly. It is actually a bit easier to slip the shorts off and pull something up.

The night time pull ups are more absorbent than the regular ones. They are thick like a regular diaper.

My son who has autism wasn't potty trained until 5 1/2. I found regular pull ups to work fine, never used the night time ones. I did change maybe a little more frequently, but being he was so old, they conceal much better than the bulky nighttime ones. The regular pull ups also Velcro on the sides or pull up and were easy to change in a stall. Sad that people have to be so judgmental. I remember sitting off with him while my DH took my DD On BTMRR, and sure enough he had to go to the bathroom....NOW. He was 9, and of course the family restroom was occupied. I took him in the women's restroom, standing outside the stall and escorting him out. Some lady told me he was too old to be in the women's bathroom. I told her he was autistic and mind her own business he wasn't bothering her. Trust me, he was NOT capable of going in the mens alone. He blurts out whatever is going to his head to anyone standing next to him, drops his pants to the floor to pee, would kindly tell a man standing next to him random thoughts, etc. Trust me, he is going to bother much less people with my supervision in the womens, and if the family restroom was available, would have taken it. I'd never take him in if there was any other option. Just really wish people would not judge when they see something that they don't consider "normal", as its not always bad parenting or lack of discipline.

I used a product called Goodnights with my kids after they were potty trained, but still couldn't make it 10 hours at night. They go on and off like underwear, but are way more absorbent than the standard pull-ups.

As for people giving you looks, as moms sometimes we just have to grin and bear it a little. I have little time for the high and mighties who think themselves parent extraordinaire who could never make a mistake. Trust me, their time will come. ;) Do what works for you and boys to have a fantastic trip at WDW. pixiedust:

I would also suggest Goodnites if the regular pull-ups won't do the trick. They are expensive but VERY absorbent. They come in two sizes; I would expect the small/medium to work for 4 year olds unless they are very small children, in which case they could be too baggie.

How about using the companion restrooms? I believe they have changing tables in them, and that way you won't have to suffer some jerk's nasty comments.

I would make sure that the companion restroom has a changing table, last I knew not all did have changing tables but you would have more room to do a standing change

Thanks everyone. I am going to get a small pack of the good nights and the nighttime pull ups and see how they work out before we go. I do use the companion restrooms from time to time but usually only if my DH is riding a ride and I need to change them both by myself. It's easier to confine them in (since crawling under the stalls can be fun don't you know). And quite a few don't have a table anyway. As for the comments, I try not to let my boys hear them. They have excellent receptive language and already know they are "different". What these people don't understand is that my kids know they are speaking negatively about them and it upsets them.

Most of the Companion Restrooms don't have changing tables.

My suggestion would be the product you are currently using plus a diaper insert.
You can sometimes find them in stores, but the easiest way to get some is to order them off Amazon

i am so sorry you met with some negative attitudes last time. Its sad you are forced to do something that is harder on your family because some people can not mind their own business. I would consider using the baby center and the first aid centers to change diapers. At the first -aid center, simply tell them you have an older child that has diaper needs and they will be glad to accommodate you. Maybe try to think up a quick and positive reply to anyone that dares to criticize your child. Not that they deserve such a kind remark, but you need to respond well in front of your child. Also maybe practice changing the diaper standing up if you choose to go with diapers and feel more comfortable in the stalls.
If your child is quite thin, the goodnights might not fit tight enough to contain the contents. A liner inside of the regular pull up might be better. Hugs , prayers and good-luck.

My 6 year old son is potty trained but not night time trained. He just sleeps too deeply to wake up. It's something we'll address as he ages. For now we use the Goodnights nighttime diaper and they work well. My son has been wearing them since he was 4 and he's small for his age. He's just under 45 inches tall and about 37 lbs and they are a little big but do not fall down. They are very absorbent and we've never had leakage.

I would try the night time pull-ups. They are significantly thicker. My DD at 2.5 could easily pee through a regular pull-up if she had a large drink.

If you need a table definitely use the baby care stations. I doubt anyone there would comment much. They have real changing tables that are large enough to accommodate a child over 24 months. My DD was 2.5 and non-trained on our last trip, it was the only place big enough to change her. I hate those pull down tables for anything but an infant.

Rude people suck! UGH

I also second the pull up night time ones. :) WHY can't people just mind their own business? We have no idea what battles and issues others are facing day to day. Not all disABILITIES are easy to spot!

I do second the Slip-on Huggies. I do understand you say you used them. I have used them a lot and they do hold more than you would think. (My son is only 17 months though.)
I actually didn't even think about it when you said the boys are 4.5 and not potty trained. All kids are different.
As a formal cast member who worked child care, I say go there. There is absolutely no judgement because people bring their older and adult children in. I have seen everything from newborns to older people. We give no looks because we are understanding.
I'm not if AK has changed since I was there in 2012, but they had a little smaller tables. I know Epcot has bigger ones. Can't remember about the other two.
MK: right behind Casey's corner.
EPCOT: beginning of world showcase, end of future world (and the way to Mexico).
HS: in guest relations at front of the park
AK: after Pizzafari. Look for ladybug lights.

My daughter is turning 5 and She is finally potty trained, no special needs, some children take longer than others. Nobody tells you that their child took longer than usual, I always heard, "oh, she's not trained yet? My child was done by 18 months, etc..." It bothered me a lot, but if that is the biggest hurdle I have to endure I'll take it.

My son is a "power pee-er" and the night time pull-ups are wonderful. They can hold a lot.

I know it's hard, but try to ignore any negative comments, and enjoy your time and your children!!!

How about a diaper liner?

They are made to boost the absorbency of what you normally use, but might not be as bulky as other options.

And please, I beg you, do not change your actions because of what strangers might say. Perhaps come up with some witty comebacks, like "We already have a pediatrician, thanks" or "Is there a copay for your unsolicited medical advice?"

I know it's hard, and I know it takes great strength to bear under the judgy glances, but you can do it. You should always do what is most convenient for you and your family.
