Hi friends,

So we are staying at BWV (its getting closer and closer) and basically my parents and I enjoy getting a drink once or twice at our resort at the end of the night to just relax and unwind. We are so used to River Roost at POR and we have no idea what to expect at Abracadabar- any tips or thoughts?

Thanks,

we really liked Abracadabar when we were there. It’s smallish inside with a really fun/distinct vibe. We were able to just walk in one night and get a seat at the bar. It was a slightly crowded weekend night pre-covid, but it didn’t feel slammed. I didn’t love my first drink but that was more of a case of me ordering the wrong thing. The ambiance is great and being right there on the boardwalk you have other options too if you’re not loving it. Highly recommend Jellyrolls if you’re over that way and if it’s open by the time your trip comes around.

Thank you! I have heard rumors of Jellyrolls not returning and for this musician and music lover it is heartbreaking! But I agree-the ambiance of the Boardwalk in general and having many options is going to make it a blast regardless!

Personally, I love the Belle-Vue Lounge in the Inn portion of the resort. Cool 1940's vibe, which I love with great old music from the era. Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc. Abracadabar was great, but small and has a cool vibe as well. I really love 1940's music, I have a interest in magic as well and I'm Irish, so I only drink on the days of the week that end with a "Y". Can't go wrong with either spot.

This is assuming that the Belle-Vue opens when the Inn portion does. Staying there next month and really hoping that it does.

We love the Belle-Vue Lounge for the same reason, although I don't think it's open.

We've never had a good experience at AbracadaBar. Not particularly bad either, but not good. Disinterested (and slow) service is the main reason.

We always enjoyed the vibe more at ESPN Club (when it was open) and Big River Grille, especially when we get an outdoor table during sunset.

I haven’t been to Abradabar enough to truly have a quality opinion - just twice I think - but my opinion would probably be a close fit to what you wrote here.

At the end of the day I’m just glad there are all sorts of options for all sorts personalities/preferences - I’m a fan of that more so than being a fan of the place itself.

Somewhat similar to Trader Sam’s - a lot of hype but it’s either your jam or it’s not. Hard to tell who will enjoy it and who won’t!

I love the idea of Abacadabar but have been sort of underwhelmed every time I go. I want it to be better than it actually is and definitely want it open later (for some reason I remember it closing too early). The theming is great but there is something missing in the atmosphere. That said, I keep going back.

Belle-Vue might be better overall but it's a completely different type of place.

Check them both out.

We've had slow/disinterested service at both Abracadabar and Belle Vue, but like the Belle Vue atmosphere enough to go back occasionally. Don't know if it will be open when you visit, but one night when we were early for our Yachtsman Steakhouse reservation we stopped in at Crew's Cup and the staff was terrific. The walk around the lake from Boardwalk to Yacht Club is really nice in the evening.

We like both Belle Vue and Abracadabar but tend to go to Belle Vue more. We like how small it is and most nights it's not real crowded. Most of the time we have had good service there. We had good service at Abracadabar if it was a slow night but when it picks up, the service can be slow.

We love the Abracadabar and go at least once a trip (twice last time). We mostly just drink Aperol spritzes, as they're kind of heavy on the whiskey there and neither of us is a fan, but the atmosphere is great. Get the Abra fries! They're amazing.

I am hoping BelleVue reopens! Especially as another food option!

We are possibly looking into Big River Grill for pre boo bash meal! and look at that view! I am going to feel like I am cheating on POR so hard with this scenery lol!

If you like micro brews then Big River Grill and Brew Works is the way to go. Food is okay, not awesome but the beer flights are on point.
Sadly, the only person who is a beer drinker/can drink beer is my father. We are thinking about going there, but not for the beer lol.
I have been known to try a flight as it is smaller portions so that is good to know!

We are the people who would totally forget there are not one, not two, not three but technically 4 other hotels in walking distance and I love actually having a name to remember so we go to those other hotels! Thank you!

The bar at Il Mulino at the Swan is always a good option as well. Quality wine list, good bartenders, and live music on the weekends last time I was there. Think upright bass and a singer.

We've also done the bar at BlueZoo which has very good bartenders and a quality cocktail menu. In regards to Jellyrolls, I've been there a few times over the past 5-6 years, there is always a cover, and I don't think there were ever more than 10 people in there, including the pianists. Rough experience to say the least.
