About the Polynesian...

We stayed at the Poly last year and I have to say it is my favorite resort. I would hate to see them tear down this resort and build new. The longhouse format has a certain charm to the place that you don't get with the mega-resort of some of the other hotels. I believe that a complete tear down of the resort would make the room sizes smaller (the Poly has some of the largest average rooms at WDW) and put more of an emphasis on DVC. Maybe a complete renovation of the GCH (with a possible teardown and rebuild) is in order. I believe the Rapa Nui has a lobby area that could be turned into a temporary check-in area and isn't there a banquet hall onsite that could serve as a restaurant if there is a complete GCH renovation? As far as a hot tub, I wouldn't need that. You know what they say about hot tubs--human soup!

Although, here is an idea. They can teardown and rebuild the GCH with all the newest amenities. And as part of the rebuild, they can add a few floors on top for DVC or Concierge type rooms, some of which could have awesome view of the castle. At the same time, they could leave the longhouses alone, except for a remodel of the rooms. You keep part of the old (the longhouses) while introducing some new (a new GCH).

I really love the Poly landscaping it's lush and frankly gorgeous. Now I do like the Poly as a resort, but maybe if they did a cheap fix like using new white bedspreads instead of the hideous ones they have now it would look much more updated. Here check out the new Disney Hawaiian DVC photo's!

Personally I think those rooms look cleaner, crisper and just more updated and refined, yet still tropical.

I love the Poly the way it is, but would not be surprised if they tear down a lot of it and remodel it after the Aulani model. That would add a lot more rooms... but the Poly is an institution and the layout is what draw us to it in the first place. The walking outside was just a pleasant experience.
They should do something about pool size though, when we last went at Easter this year the pool at some days had standing room only. (well, the quiet pool was closed, this might have had something to do with it). and not enough wrist-banding going on... some openly bragged about staying elsewhere and just using the pool.

I love the Poly and it is perfect just the way it is. If they tear down the lodge they will destroy that smell. Can't there be a way to do repairs with a preservationist mindset? Even skyscrapers manage to remove asbestos, surely Disney can as well.

If they build an Aulani clone there I would feel ill. The Poly is such a special and unique place on property. I feel like I am submerged in Walt's vision when I am there, more so than any other place in the parks. Building a high rise hotel like you find all down the beaches here would be criminal.

Since they need to redo the GCH, and there are apparently significant issues with the Volcano pool, perhaps it makes sense to tear down the GCH and the western half of the resort. Replace it with a modern, semi-high rise building. Keep the longhouses on the eastern half such as Hawaii, Tokelau and Tahiti. If done correctly they can still preserve some of the charm of the Poly in it's current form but add more rooms, etc.
