Thinking about staying at SSR resort (It's one of the few DVC resorts I haven't stayed at except for 1 night when it was only partially built). Three questions-
1. How reliable is it on fulfilling area requests? For example, I really want to stay in the Grandstand section. So look into your crystal ball and tell me my chances of getting that request fulfilled.
2. When you check in, how do you get to your room? The only other multi-building resort I can think of is OKW and I only stay there when I'm with DH and a car.
3. Are there any good spots to curl up and read besides in your villa? At BCV, I go to the Solarium; AKV I go to the Sunset lounge or at Kidani, the library.
4. Lastly, any solos ever stay there?

We have had our request for Grandstand every time we have requested it. As far as getting to the villa from check in, they have golf carts just like OKW to drive you. If you have your own car, just drive to the building. No seating in buildings besides your room, but there is some seating between check in area and Artist’s Pallete.

1. I've had requests met the two out of the 3 times I stayed there since November of this year. For the 3rd I didn't get I also requested first available since we got there before 4pm, so that probably played a role.

2. They can drive you to your room.

3. Lots of random benches and grass to sit on in the courtyard and outdoor areas across the resort. The courtyard areas don't get used enough in my opinion.

4. Haven't done a solo stay there, but I think there's ample things to do for solo travelers, including taking the boat to DS (and switching to POFQ for some beignets!), window shopping and snacking on dole whip at DS, or checking out the DVC preview center (we did this with the in-laws while waiting for our room to be ready last trip).

We always stay in Congress Park when staying at SSR and have always had our request fulfilled. Lots of great spots to curl up and read -- both indoors and out. Just wandering those 65 acres, you're bound to find a spot that's perfect for you.

We are 1 for 2 with our requests in the last year. Interestingly enough I too asked for Grandstand but was assigned Paddock. That location ended up being better then I could have hoped for super close to the pool and bus stop.

We saw lots of golf carts near the check in area taking people to their rooms. The grounds are so pretty though and I loved walking around and exploring. As for quiet places - just about everywhere outdoors you could think of. Finding somewhere indoors - I’ve never tried….

We've stayed at SSR maybe 4-5 times, usually at a busy time of year, and last month was the first time we did not get the location we requested. I asked for Paddock but was given the furthest building in Carousel. On arrival I asked if there were any alternative rooms available, and was given the choice of another building in Carousel, or one in Grandstand.

No guarantees, of course, but I think the odds are good that your Grandstand request would succeed. I would guess that most standard location requests are for Paddock - it's a little more central - so Grandstand is probably a good bet.

We love SSR. Our requests have always been fulfilled, even down to the building number. We love the Grandstand!

Well, I’ve owned there since it opened, can’t begin to count how many times I’ve stayed there and only once have I been given a requested Grandstand location. Go figure.

I actually have come to prefer the Paddock building nearest Congress Park since it is the closest of the standard locations to DS. Lots of solo stays so I appreciate the proximity for eating, shopping, etc.

Luckily, only once did I wind up in Carousel. I believe they send you there when they want to punish you for being naughty.
