I haven't flown on Spirit since the new carry-on policy started. My question is- Can you have your carry-on that fits under the seat AND a medium size purse? Or does the purse have to fit inside the under-the-seat carry-on? Thanks!!

Two items???

I think you are confusing Spirit with an airline that does ANY customer service

From thier website

Only 1 per seat purchased. Must fit underneath a seat.

16 x 14 x 12"
(40 x 35 x 30cm)

(And figure they mean it and will charge for that purse!)

Just flew Spriit first time end of July. Planes not the cleanest but low fares even with them charging for overhead now and checked luggage. When we flew son and I eachj had a 21 inch carry on we put in overhead (they didn't start charging for overhead till Aug. I believe) and I had a large tote under seat in front and put my "purse" next to it on floor. I did see many ladies holding their purses on their laps at takeoff and landing both ways! Apparently flight attendants didn't care about purses on laps!

Oh my! That's actually just scary! The rule about not having stuff on your laps is an FAA rule so that the items don't become projectiles. Another reason IMHO to avoid Spirit. Fees, safety.... But at least it's cheap LOL!

They arent necessarily the cheapest all the time...not for me when we are going anyway

I just flew Spirit this month on the second day of the new carry-on policy. I believe it was $45 for the first carry-on bag which will go in the overhead compartment. You are also allowed 1 personal item that must fit under the seat.

Your "personal item" must be within 16 x 14 x 12" and must fit underneath a seat.

Excluded Items:

  • Umbrella, Camera, Infant Diaper Bag, Assistive Devices, Outer Garments (Coats/Hats/Wraps), Car Seat/Stroller, Reading Material, Food for the flight.

Excluded items are not counted towards a customer's carry-on item baggage allowance and are free of charge.

So a photographer's or flak jacket would be a GOOD investment when flying Spirit ;) as would large-pocket cargo pants... and is there any requirement that a passenger with a diaper bag must be traveling with an infant?

After I saw the carry on fee.. I paid for the $15 each way for a regular suitcase. That makes more sense and it give us MORE room for clothes and goodies. We love flying Spirit.. the planes were very clean, friendly and ON TIME! And when you are paying $93rt it's amazing these days. Now, if we can only get them to rap like on SW..
See you in MCO Sept 15!

I booked our flight in a few weeks last night. Got the rate, was happy. Knew there would be baggage fees, paid the $60 in advance, no problem. Then they have you pick the seats (which you have to do) and they charge you for the seat!!! $25 for the front, $18 for the front/middle, $14 for the rear/middle and $10 for the rear....for each seat and each flight!!! So I chose the rear and for 3 seats that was another $60. Suddenly I no longer had such a great price. I still booked it but at this point the airlines can kiss my tukus! :badpc:

Four of us flew Spirit last week. We pre-paid for two checked bags each way. We each carried on a "personal" item which met the specifications found on their website. My DD and myself put our purses inside our personal item. No problems whatsoever. Actually, it made it pretty stress free because we didn't have to worry about getting overhead space!

Again, we had great prices for our base tickets so the $60 additional I paid for checked bags wasn't a big deal.

You don't have to pay for the seat. You can wait and either print out your boarding passes 24 hours a head of time or when you get to the airport and then your seats are assigned to you at no charge. Chances are you will be sitting in the rear of the plane. My DH and I just came back from FL on Spirit and I had printed our boarding passes for the flight down 24 hours before and we were in the rear of the plane. When we checked in, I asked if there were different seats available and they moved us up a few rows into the exit aisle which was actually the row behind but it was good because the row in front of us only had 2 seats so our window seat had no seat in front of it and there was plenty of leg room.
