Planning a trip to Tennessee. All these cabins around the Smokies has me worried. Why do they have bath tubs in the bedroom? Do they have showers in the bathrooms? I've yet to find a picture of a bathroom with a shower.

Also, if you've vacationed around Gatlinburg, please tell me a good place to stay.

We stayed in Maggie Valley, NC (about an hour away from Gatlinburg) and rented a cabin from a family friend. It was pretty normal and had a shower/bath combo in both bathrooms. No bathtubs in the bedrooms. Hot tub outside though. So nice. We are going back next year!

I've rented cabins twice. The Smokies are a very popular honeymoon spot. You'll notice many little chapels in the mountains. Does that explain the tub in the bedroom...? In reality, many people build the cabins as a vacation home, then rent them through various agencies. The tub in the bedroom and hot-tubs on the decks are big features that people seem to want. Having these two items will help get their cabin rented more often. That is why there are so many with this feature.

Both times we rented, we did have a shower in the bathroom. The first time we rented a one-room "efficiency" type and it had a tiny bathroom with shower only. The second time, we rented a beautiful log home and the bath had double vanities, shower/tub combo, and washer/dryer closet. It was very nice--honestly, as nice as my master bath at home. You might want to avoid renting a cabin with the heart-shaped spa tubs in the bedrooms though! That seems odd to me.

I've stayed over there several times. We love getting away and just renting a cabin to decompress. We rent from diamond mountain rentals and never had any problems. Not all cabins have a garden tub in the bedroom but many do because the area is a popular love getaway. All the cabins I have stayed in have showers and sometimes two of them depending on the # of rooms you need. Hope you have a great vacation.

We stayed in a cabin rental 3 yrs ago. Ours was a 3bed/2bath. The master bath had a whirlpool tub in the bathroom- no shower. The other bathroom had your standard tub/shower. We looked at dozens of cabins for this trip.

In the end I have to say I was really disappointed. The cabin ran us $1800 for the 7 nights in a non-prime week per the rental calendars. The pictures made the place look really good. The cabin was definetly only about 1/2 the size the photo's made it look like. Also, all the furniture and stuff was really worn in and the whole thing just was much more rundown than it appeared. We rented from Timber Tops- which I noticed is still in business but under a new name.

The cabin was also listed as secluded (which dh wanted). It was pretty high up a mountain. Not bad-- but the road up and down could only accomodate 1 vehicle width wise. The road was so curvy you didn't know if anyone else was coming and this was for about 4 miles. We ended up w/ our rental van in the ditch and seen others there too. That part was not even safe. They should of had 1 road up and 1 road down- or just a single road that was wide enough. Funny thing was there was some other resorts we almost rented in on this mountain too-- when we decided to go w/ a mang. company w/ a more private rental.

We go to Tennessee once or twice a year. Just went in April and are going back in July. We rent our cabin in Pigeon Forge at Sherwood Forest Resorts. It's an awesome place!!!!!! They have a wide range of cabin sizes and you can take a look at them on the web.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

tubs in the bedrooms, showers in the bathrooms and toilets outside in the outhouse. LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist!!

There are a zillion cabins in East TN. Some are nice, some aren't kept up as well. Some are on very curvy narrow roads (some paved and some not).
I am not sure how to chose but would read these boards for good reviews as many people on the DIS rent in the Smokies.

Brenda, did we have a great one. :) It even had a washing bucket on the porch. Oh wait, that was the hot tub.

It was a beautiful, comfy cabin. I forget the name. But have fun, they're lots to chose from.

Thanks everyone who responded with your thoughts and suggestions. We just got home from a wonderful trip to TN. I ended up renting from The Preserve rentals. The pictures on their web site looked really nice and they were new. They did not disappoint! It was a fabulous cabin up on a high mountain. Walk in to a living room, kitchen, dining room and bathroom on first floor. Downstairs had a gameroom with pool table, laundry room, master bedroom and huge bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub. Three TVs with satellite. Balconies on both floors. The furninshings were very nice and new. I did pay more than I would have for some of the other ones, but it was well worth it. We would definately stay again! Only downside was that it did take a while to get to off the main highway that goes to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Also, there were no stores or restaurants nearby so we had to snack on peanuts and crackers that I had brought "just in case". We got there late and it was very dark. I had hoped it would be a little more secluded than it was, but it was still quiet.

Oh and there was a hot tub on the balcony. Although we didn't use it, you still have to pay a deposit.
