? about room keys

Are you able to use your room key from HRH, or any of the other US hotels, in the parks to purchase food or merchandise so I don't have to carry cash?

Yes, you can add room charging to your room keys.

Some carts though do not accept it.

Can you use a Visa or MC Gift card for your charging purposes or does it have to be on the credit card you booked your room with?

any plastic will do.

you can buy the UO gift cards online now and use them anywhere at universal and hotels.

the card i use to pay my hotel bill is not the card i use in the parks/citywalk.

i use my motherland card.

universal used to have a program where you received points on their cc.

i was 20 points away from having a free 2 night stay onsite when it was disbanded.
they changed 'the official cc' and transferred my points to another card.
but, they took away the onsite hotel stay.

You must let them know you want your card to have charging privileges and you won't be able to on the day of check in until your room is ready.

I found that out the hard way, DH took the kids on Jaws and I was thirsty so went to get a drink and tried my card. I usually don't have cash, but luckily I happen to have a few dollars that day

They will also do a pre auth for I think $50 or $100 per night if I remember right.

Most locations throughout USF, IOA, and the onsite hotels accept them. You do indeed need to tell the TM at check-in that you would like to add charging privileges to your room key and set a limit (if you want). At CityWalk, most locations also accept them but it requires a bit more work. Sometimes they have to phone the hotel, so I find it easier to use a credit or debit card or cash at CityWalk.
