About renting dvc points...

I am currently planning my 4th Disney trip in a 2 1/2 year time frame. I have done some basic research on renting dvc points and I'm pretty much sold! I love the idea of Bay Lake Tower being so close to MK but I read a couple comments like "never being able to book Bay Lake" or about hoping for pixie dust or being put on a wait list. So my question is how difficult is it to get the resort you want? I am looking at mid-September of this year and would use a site rather than individual. Thanks in advance for the info!

It depends on many things. You would need to book at 11 months out to be sure. Also certain room categories are harder than others. Basically the ones that require the least points are harder. Many times it is that members from Bay Lake Towers are not renting.

You may have a hard time finding something especially since F&W is starting earlier this year. I've found studios are close to impossible to come by except at OKW and SS unless you book through Disney and not rent, in which case you are better off with a deluxe resort room since they are a tad bigger than the studios.

For mid-September, you are already within the 7-month window, when all points can be used to book BLT. Standard Studios are basically gone already, and availability of most other room types is fading quickly.

If you want BLT Standard Studio, you book at 11 months. Once you pass 7 months for a fall booking, availability is limited. You may be acting too late for a 2016 trip. (Booking at 11 months is basically how you get the resort you want with DVC, which requires an owner at that resort to book for you. Expectations are key for those renting DVC.)

Gotcha! Thanks everyone for the replies! We just got back from a trip in January and weren't planning on going back until the end of 2017 but decided we can't wait that long. I will definitely be more prepared for our next trip!
