We are thinking of driving down President's week. I don't want to make a ressie in case we get a blizzard and can't drive down. What are the odds I could be able to get some kind of room (any DVC resort) with a day or 2 notice?

Not great, IMO. Virtually zero if you want to stay at the same resort for a multi-night stay.

Remember that DVC sends any unreserved points inventory to CRO at the 60 day mark. While DVC members would still have access to the inventory, they would be competing with the general public for it on a first come, first served basis. Lots of schools have that week (or at least the weekend) off and it's a very busy time in the parks.

In your situation, I would make a cash reservation somewhere now, at a resort that has a very lenient cancellation policy. I'd even consider off-site. I would call MS and try to get a reservation 10-15 days out, once the weather predictions were available. Might get lucky. You never know.

Good luck!

It would probably just be for 1 night. I don't care which resort we get or if it's a studio or a 1 bedroom.

We were staying off property for our trip back in Feb of 2001. We were at the airport waiting to fly back up north when our flight was cancelled due to a snowstorm. I called member services from the airport to see if they had anything available for just one night on a point stay. We were lucky enough to get a one bedroom, "boardwalk" view villa at the BWV's!! :woohoo:
You can't imagine how lucky we felt, so you just never know. It is one of our favorite memories in WDW. Good luck! :goodvibes

You never know what pixie dust may happen. We live 20 miles from WDW and this past June a pipe broke in our house and we were flooded out. I called MS as soon as they opened on a Thurs and got a 1 bedroom in OKW starting that day with a checkout on Sunday. Found out on Sat that we needed to stay one more night ... again called MS and they extended us one more day no problem and we were able to stay in the same villa. Cannot tell you how grateful we were. :worship:

I just checked availability yesterday and was told that DVC has no availability for that week. :sad1:

You never know when something may open up.

:) Bill

I wouldn't count on a last minute DVC reservation during that week. Drove down to WDW with some friends two years ago and we made better time than expected. I called and asked for any available room at any DVC and the only thing they had was a Grand Villa at the boardwalk -- with arrival after midnight on a Saturday I took a pass.

Were I you, I'd go on a wait list. You may luck out and AKV may declare more inventory just before your visit, probably not until after the December holidays though.

Don't worry yourself too much over a blizzard. Looks to me from your tag that you're in NJ, just a state or two south of where you are and you'll be clear of the freeze zone. The hardest part would be getting your car cleared off to go. (All the more reason to leave for WDW early! Ha!)

I don't want to book anything now because I'm not sure if we will get through. Historically February is the worst month around here for snow. I guess we could always stay off-site  for a day or 2.

Several years ago, coincidently due to a weather issue, we were forced to go down a day early during President's Week, and tried to add on one night. We could not get anything at our resort or at any others. We ended up staying the one night at the Contemporary.

Being in MA myself, I hear you loud and clear. However, when the goal is FL and to get away from the ice and piles of snow I'll do what I have to to get out. It's the return home I find to be disappointingly difficult even without inches of ground coverings to greet me in the driveway.

BTW - offsite is not that bad if you have a car. But I thought we all bought DVC so we never had to stay offsite again

It wasn't president day's week but we were scheduled to leave last March 1st when we heard 2 days before that there was blizzaard coming. I called MS & was able to get a 2brdm for the next nite. (a day earlier) Then I called the airline to changed our flights to the following morning. All in all everything worked to our advantage plus, we were able to stay in the same room without changing since I had originally booked a 2 brdm. At first we were upset about paying $1000 for the flight changes but later that night we were at the NY Islanders game & I won the 50/50...I told DH that will pay for the extra $ for the flights plus spending money...:cool1::cool1:
