Our lights are back on, after being in the dark for 25 hours due to Isabel. We kept our refrigerator opening to a minimum, but how long should I expect those items (milk, eggs, o.j.) to stay cold and fresh? Do they need to thrown out now?
DH had milk in a bowl of cereal last night and thought the milk was starting to get warm. Around the same time, we had mayo and soda, and they were still cold, 16 hours after the power went off.

We just came back on after 30 hours. I threw away the milk and mayo and everything in my freezer. It all thawed out and refroze this morning. Luckily I hadn't gone food shopping so just things like bacon, hot dogs, biscuits, cake. Oh well, better safe then sorry. I did keep the butter I think that's okay.

THANK YOU DAN !!!!!

I'm printing it to take to the fridge. Looks like I'll be discarding quite a bit.

Wow.. welcome back you guys... I have never lost power for that long.. that is just so difficult.. hugs to you all.

Just don't forget, when they speak of being held above 40º for 2 hours, or other measurements, that is above that temp for that time. If in an unopened frig, it takes some time for the frig to actually get above that temp.

Any idea how long it takes for the fridge to drop below 40 degrees? It was opened 4 or 5 times, very quickly, in and out for a drink or mayo while the power was off. I have no idea how warm/cold it was when the power came back on at 5am.
