? About Point Transfers

Hi!

I'm not sure if this is the spot to post. I've rented points before but never transfered them. If you've done this how did you handle payment that made both parties feel good about it. It's a little more all or nothing than a rental (or it feels that way to me).

Any advice appreciated!
 
When I have done points transfers, I have simply cut a check to the person with the excess points and once they had received it, we did the transfer. One time I actually made a deposit to another member's bank account (I am in Mass, she was in NJ, she banked at Fleet), then I faxed her the deposit slip and she transferred me the points.

I was dealing with peaople I thought I could trust (correctly, it turns out), so I was not hesitant simply to cut a check. Others have surely had different experiences.
 
I have also done a transfer by having someone send me 1/2 before the transfer, and 1/2 when it was completed. I received points from a fellow member that I recognized from these boards, and I just sent him the full amount ahead of time. Transferring points is just scary, so you have to be working with someone you can trust. :thumbsup2
 
It helps to know how someone else handled things! I don't have many posts so I really try not to judge by that but I guess it's all a leap of faith!

We have done this twice. Once we paid by check and after the person received our check, they called and with Member Services in a 3 way call and we did the transfer. The second time, the owner with the extra points had a PayPal account and sent me a "bill" which was easy for me to respond and pay. We also did the transfer in a 3 way call. Both times worked fine and both owners were a pleasure to work with. I love transfers between owners, especially since I always seem to be borrowing points and when I run out it is nice to buy more from other members who want to transfer. Seems to work well for both sides.
 
Last time I needed some extra points I payed the full amount with pay pal. 10 minutes later they transferred the points to my account. 10 minutes later I made my reservation. I am renting again and now they want to make the reservation for me because the points can't be transferred. I sent a check today for 25%. They were supposed to make the reservations today but I didn't hear anything. Then they will mail me the confirmation, and when I get the confirmation, I will send the rest of the money. I really did like the tranfer better. It was transacted so quickly. But I am getting a good deal on the points so I can't complain.
 
When I had points transfered to me a few months ago, I paid 1/2 by PayPal, then they transfered the points, then I paid the other 1/2. It was painless for me and them I think - just quick phone calls. I was also able to make my ressie right away.
