? about PEX Plumbing

We are having a house built and the builder suggested PEX plumbing. Has anyone used this before? Would like to know the pros and cons.

We have it and it's great. My BIL is a plumber and did it for us. he loves it because he can plumb a house in a 1/3 the time. The builder should be giving you a cheaper price for PEX vs. copper.

My husband is a plumber, and he loves the stuff. He just did our house over with it while we were renovating. I don't really know any of the pro's or con's though.

Can I ask where you are at in Missouri? We are waiting on our permits now to start our house in Jefferson County. We have looked into PEX and want to use it in our house. The county told us that we would be the first in the county to use it that they could remember. We haven't been able to find a plumber that has installed it in the past, so my DH may install it. He is only required to pass a plumbing test for the county to install all the plumbing in our house. There are several different companies that make the tubing and fittings. Zurn is one of them and you can look up info online.

We are in Clay County in Missouri. Our builder recommends it. He said it would not freeze or corrode like copper piping.

We are building a new house & using it.

Our builder said the theft of copper out of the ground is really, really, really high. We bid our home plane to a couple of different builders & they all said the same thing. "Before the stuff is inspected, it is out of the ground."

Our builder really likes it. He says it is cheaper, holds up well, as better individual turn off valves.

It is apparantly becoming very popular to use here in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

I'm afraid to let my daughter drink it because I'm worried about the plastics getting into her system.

pex has several pros, and a few cons. as a former plumber i would recommend it based on the price, the fact that it is very flexable, and very resistant to freeze burst, if installed properly it will last longer than copper, and i've never noticed any difference in taste,


you may need to flusah your system totally tressa, there may be other forign mater in the lines that is causeing the taste, or it may be from cheep grade faucets. the pex is not known to bleed taste into water, but a lot of the cheep faucets are madde weith low g rade plastics, or therer may be some plumbers g rease in the lines that is causeing the bad taste.

bath faucets are notorious fort having grease inside hte fittings flush it with hot and cold water wide open for about 15 min or so should help. tub faucets are the worst,
