? about personal check given to me

I helped someone set up an Excel spreadsheet and he paid me with a check. He mentioned that he dated it for Friday, no big deal. Out of courtesy, I didn't read the check until I was a good ways off the driveway and on my way back home. At that point I only looked at the amount and was pleased at what anmounted to about $11/hour for what I felt was not much of anything, but I knew he appreciated my help setting up the page.
So, I need to make a stop for milk and laundry detergent, pull out the check in the store's lighting, just to double check how he might have spelled my name. (It's often misspelled) He made the check payable to CASH! Can I take his check made out to CASH to the bank and cash it? Who endorses the back, him or me? It's my boss' husband and I'm going to make mention of it tomorrow, asking whether I should return the check for a replacement or wait until payday for cash. Any advice?

we get chgecks made to cash regularly, normally we can cash them at our bank with no problem, sometimes we have to take them to the bank of issue, but only if it was over $1000

You can endorse the check and cash it either at your bank or his. If you go to his bank, expect to have to show ID to cash it.

You shouldn't have any problems cashing it.

Be careful though, should you lose the check, anyone else who finds it could cash it also.

That's not a problem at all. You just take it to your bank and endorse it yourself, then deposit it or cash it. I have done this plenty of times. I have received checks from clients made out to cash and simply took them to the bank, endorse it and deposited right into my account.

I did not know that! I learned another thing new today (learned something at work today about one of our programs).

Ya know, it is drawn on a bank I where I have an account. It's not my regular bank, but there's money in it that would cover the check - not that it would bounce if I wait until Friday as noted, but this bank likes to CYA by not honoring checks for amounts greater than your balance.
