Does anybody remember the purebred maine coon kitten I got who was so sickly. He now weighs 9lbs at nearly 5 months. And he is a major pest. I am guessing because my dd and I bottle fed him so much he has bonded to us like glue. I can't do anything without him being there. He runs up to me, jumps up my leg and hangs on my shoulder all the time. If I don't lock the bathroom door he follows me in there. When I"m doing my makeup he jumps onto my shoulder and looks in the mirror. He chirps like a maine coon, but he also howls if nobody is there. It's not loud but if he gets into my hallway where it echoes, it is. I wonder how loud he is when I'm at work. He is also a bully, because he has been so spoiled. He's gotten some bad habits, like really viciously attacking your legs, and climbing onto the counters. I'm going to have to start disciplining him with a spray water bottle I think. He tears thru the house, jumping onto everything he sees. Now that he is acting and feeling so much better and has put the weight back on, I am thinking about scheduling that neutering. Maybe that will get some of the aggressiveness out of him. Thanks everybody for the help and support.

Wow, that IS good news!

Those boys get real big, 9lbs at 5 months, that's a BIG boy!

What's his name? I live my maine coon, she runs the house!

Great news! He sounds like a healthy happy cat to me. Good Luck with him in the future!

His name is Morgan. One because he has a black M on his forhead. Also because Morgan means from the sea in Gaelic and we live on the ocean. And also for Captain Morgan the pirate, because Maine Coons were favorite ship cats for pirates because they were hardy and the extra toe made them good mousers. Yep he's a big boy. I was worried that being so thin for so long would stunt his growth. But he doesn't really look that big to me. And he's still pretty thin although his legs are very stocky and he has a little bit of a kitten chubby belly. His ribs and hip bones still stick out quite a bit.

Excellent!

One bit of advise is to discourage his jumping on your shoulder. Meeko did this as a kitten and DH thought it was great. Problem is now he is 17 lbs and still tries to do it. It now involves peroxide and bandages on DH's back when it doesn't work out quite like Meeko planned. We all know he's huge but he hasn't caught on yet.

Great news!

I have found that this happens to be a really difficult age for kitties!

I have also noticed that they don't settle down until they hit at least about 3 (years)!

Definately get him neutered before he starts spraying! Once that starts it is hard to stop!

So glad he is doing so well. Maine Coons are such neat kitties.

Glad to hear that your kittie is doing great. I have 2 Maine Coon Mixed kitties. Max is 5 and Shelby is 6. They are a JOY to have around but sure do keep us on our toes!! Check out the photo to the left. I love to show them off.

Marcie!! My ragdoll's name is Meeko, too!!

My Max, a very small black longhair I got from the Humane Society does the shoulder thing. Luckily he's small because if my BIG guys did it I'd be put in the hospital because I had surgery on that shoulder a few years ago. Max barely feels like he's there!

Great news!

I got a cat from somebody 13 years ago. The lady had goten it from someone else and she said the cat may have some persian in him. The cat was 3 years old at the time.

What I am getting at is that I think it is a maine coon. I looked on the web and one site said that it is impossible to know for sure because so many cats from different breeds look like each other. My cat looks like a carbon copy of Shelby's gray Maine coon on her profile. He is gray, tabby-like face, a lot of hair around the face, long and lean, fluffy tail, and follows me around everywhere.

Is there any way to tell for sure what I have or at least have a good amont of certainty in knowing if he is a maine coon?

Anyway, I love my cat to death. He's 16 years old now. How long do maine coon cats live? I know I will be devastated when I lose him. He's the best pet I have ever had.

Thanks for the update on your kitty. Glad he is okay.:D

I have three persian furbabies! I have two males that used to be WILD, once I got them neutered they calmed down ALOT!!:smooth:

Yay, so good to hear an update about Morgan. He sounds like a happy, healthy kitty now. :)

And yes, neutering him should help calm him down just a bit.

Hate to tell ya, but my guy has exactly the same personality and he's nearly 5 years old. He's been neutered for a long time. Yeah, the shoulder thing is cute, but not so great when it's a surprise. All of my t-shirts have holes at the left shoulder. If I want to get any work done, I have to lock myself in my rather warm office while the cat gets the rest of the house. Here's a pic of Elvis the King. He's only sleeping with the pig because there are no human laps currently available.
