I'm just curious how much the average person/family spends on food in WDW, per person, per day.
If you buy groceries for the week, you have to add that to the budget and divide by your days to be fair.

Alcoholic drinks, bottled water, snacks, tips, groceries, everything counts!

Thanks!

There are five of us. Last August on the Dining Plan for the six days, we saved 1400 dollars. We did all out of pocket kids meals. That makes it 100ish dollars with drinks. We didn't do too much alcohol so I would say 15 dollars. We were at the Yacht Club, and didn't buy groceries. 1515 divided over five people is $303 per person. Over six days, it's about fifty dollars per perso per day. This isn't a really accurate way to count though because we NEVER would have ordered what we ordered without free food. We also shared a lot, so that let us go to more places. Still, we wouldn't have ordered appetizers and eentres and desserts without sharing because it would be too much food for us. This is an interesting thread.

I voted $21-$40 - this includes about $12 a day on water/cold drinks per person. If I was to spend anymore than that then I would buy the dining plan.

I don't do the dining plan (our last trip was Mar 05 and next is Nov 06). I allot $150 per day for dd17 and me which includes bottled water. We don't eat snacks usually. We like our nice sit down meals for lunch and dinner and prefer room service for breakfast while we are getting ready for the day.

Beware, your results going by per person per day may be misleading.

I voted $21 to $40, based on the fact that we usually spend about $130 a day on average for our family of 5, 2 adults 3 children ages 2, 4, 7.

Now if we were a family of 5 adult eaters that $130 a day might not do and the average cost per person per day would go up.

I'd bet that if just my DW and I went we'd probably spend close to $100 a day on average, with a $50 per person per day figure.

So, it all depends on who is in your party

We usually skip breakfast, just because we're in a hurry to get to the parks, and then eat a counter service lunch (around $10 per person), and then have a nice table service dinner (around $25 per person), so about $35 per person per day. However, it definitely varies, and we ended up spending about $800 for four of us on our last 7 day trip.

We vary, probably between the $40-60 & 60-80 per person range. We eat breakfast in the rooms (pop tarts & Breakfast bars) and usually eat 2 sit down meals a day. Our upcoming vacation we only have 2 fast food lunches planned and the rest are all sit down except for one day we are having a buffet breakfast after a hot air balloon ride so we probably won't eat much for lunch. Another day when we go to the beach we will eat lunch at the beach somewhere, most likely fast food.

We also save 20% with the DDE card.

We'll spend between $100-150 per day per person. We mostly do table service restaurants for most meals, so it's very easy to do if you have a bottle of wine with dinner each night and a couple cocktails before...c'mon, we are on vacation here!!

August 05 5 of us spent about $1400 with DDE & concierge

May 06 6 of us spent about $1800 with 1/2 the trip DDE & concierge 1/2 on DP

We ended up spending the same. About $40 per person.

** I wanted to add that next trip I am vowing to spend less on food**

using rough estimates for hubby and I, I figured we would likely spend somewhere between 40 and 60 a day, though really the better estimate would be 50 to 70 (which is right between two of the choices) depending on if we get alcohol etc. However, for our upcoming trip the number is more likely to be $10 to 20 a day per person since we're on free dining, so only the couple of OOP meals and alcohol will be in the mix, plus probably a couple extra waters/snacks.

We are a family of 4....on our 2004 trip we didn't have a dining plan, and our budget was $140 a day for food. We used almost all of it. There were a couple days we were under, but there were a couple days we went over and it pretty much evened out. We were me, DH, DS3 and DS15 months. One sit down meal each day, two days we did two sit down meals in the same day.

We haven't done the dining plan yet but two adults I'd say we spend between $61 to $80 per day on food. Our two children probably spend way less maybe $20 per day. I can easily drink 64 ozs of water a day at home. However, the last time we went to Disney in May it was hot and I easily drank about 100 ozs of water day. At home I use a filter but at Disney I buy bottle water. Plus, my oldest dd can drink a lot of water. I think we are the camel family (LOL)... I hung around someone all day and never realize how little water some people survive off of. I don't drink as many sodas. We usually have one drink with dinner but not always. Anyways, we'll do breakfast in the room and counter service lunch & table service dinner. We do snacks whenever. We sometimes do buffet breakfast and then, a early dinner. We do share a lot of snacks through the day. It is a vacation afterall...

DisneyKidds is probably right about the cost varying based on the ages of the family. We (me, DH, DS-20, DB, DM) figure $50 each. We assume 10 for breakfast, 15 for lunch and 25 for supper. The difference it costs more or less makes up for snacks and TS costs.

Interesting results!

Yes, kids would definitely cost less, but I didn't want to make the poll too involved or no one would respond to me. lol. ;)

We spend about $200 per day on food and drinks. That's for 2 adults and 3 kids. The dining plan would be perfect for us - we did it in January and loved it. We just bought APs again for our July trip so we can't get the dining plan but are using the DDE card. I wish Disney would let AP owners get the dining plan that would really help!

It depends on if we have the dining plan.. Last Aug we got the plan for free (did this Aug too) and I paid OOP for breakfast only anywhere from $15-$23 a day and we spent over $525 just on TS meals on the DDP (3 of us).
Now when I pay everything OOP for 4 of us I normally spend $28 for breakfast, $30 for lunch and about $60-$80 for dinner per day..
