We are possibly going to both parks the week of thanksgiving. Four kids 15, 3, 6, and 12. The older 2 have read the books and seen the movies. The younger 2 and mom and dad have not. Should we? Will it make the experience a lot better for us.
Thanks

We did a lot of "homework" before going to US and IOA. I think it really enriches the experience if you know about the characters, story, etc. Then you can appreciate all the little touches!

So, not only did we watch Harry Potter movies, we watched Jaws and Jurassic park and The Mummy. I found Dudley do Right and Popeye cartoons online. Of course you have to gage which items are appropriate for little kids! But I think know more about the story behind the attraction is very helpful. (BTW, my DD finds HP movie 2 to be the scariest. We like movie Prisoner of Azkaban the best.)

Definitely! I read all the books and watched all the movies. My husband only watched the movies. When I spent a week solo at Universal this past late August/early Sept I went to HP first thing every morning using the staying on property perk to get early entry. I really took my time wandering in each shop and just taking in the atmosphere, looking at all the details. When I went back in Oct my husband and I stayed at WDW and spent two days at Universal. Because I had found all the little details when I was there the month before, I kept pointing things out to him. He kept saying he didn't remember some of those things from just watching the movies and I realized that alot of the stuff is not even mentioned in the movies or if is, it is just in passing. He enjoyed HP, but if he had read the books the details would have stood out to him more.

I have a friend that went and hadn't watched the movies. She wasn't impressed because she said she didn't "get it". I have been there and would recommend watching the movie. It will make it that much more enjoyable.

Thanks everyone!! It looks like I have some reading and movie watching to do!!

Yes, but not just because of the parks. The books are amazing. Your family will love them. And then, yes, everything in the park will be loaded with special meaning for your family as you discover reference after reference to the books.
