We are considering surprising our almost 8-yo DD and 6-yo DD with a trip to WDW on August 4, 5, 6, and 7. We went last year in mid October and it was more than great as far as crowds were concerned. I know August will be much more busy, but will it be too busy to truly enjoy this? My girls could care less about Epcot (we tried it) and so I am thinking this would be strictly a MK and maybe a water park trip. I do want to enjoy this short time; am I fooling myself to plan this for August? I just don't want this to be a miserable short trip.....

TIA--:Pinkbounc :sunny:

I'm going that week too, however it's our first in the "world". I actually CHOSE that week because I thought it might be slowing down by August with school just around the corner. Maybe I've lost my mind. I'll be interested in seeing everyone else's replies.

I've been to Disney the first week of August. It is still crowded and it is hot! A plus is the parks are open late (although that might not help with a 6 and 8 yr. old).

To help with the crowds, use fastpass and go to the parks first thing in the morning! You will get so much done in the first 2-3 hours, then go back to the resort and relax until late afternoon. Go back to a park that was not EMH and do more rides that evening.

Make sure to bring lots of water and those mister fans (those are life savers in the heat!).

We love this time of year because you can swim and go to the water parks and not freeze.

I've been twice during that time and the crowds aren't too awful. As was mentioned it will be hot and muggy and it will rain. It hasn't ruined our trips though and we continue to go during the summer. Take the disposable ponchos for those afternoon showers and be prepared for the heat. Use the inside attractions to cool off in the A/C and take your time.

we went in August a few years back. The very best tip we got was to stay with disney and have lunch and "quiet time" at the resort. Because the parks are open late, you wont miss anything but the worst of the crowds and heat.

Go enjoy!

I am so excited. This is the time frame we are going also. Only time DH could get off work. I think any time you get the chance to go you should go for it! Maybe we'll see you there. :earsgirl:

It will be hot and busy. If you plan to do a water park make sure you get there early. Last August the water parks were full to capacity by late morning. We still had a great time. Bring rain gear as it tend to rain a little each day.

Like most everybody else said, it will be hot and it will rain.;) We went the first week in Aug. last year, and are doing it again this year. (Maybe we'll see you there!) The only park that seemed REALLY crowded was MK. Get there early, use FPs as much as you can, and otherwise go with the flow. The other parks didn't seem overly crowded, we got into a lot of thing with no wait at all. If doing a water park, get there when they open, as suggested, because yes, they will fill up. When the lines got too long for us last year, we left at lunchtime to swim back at the resort, then hit a park for the rest of the day.
With the daily rain, my only suggestion is to wear sport sandals that can get wet an still feel comfortable. Wet socks and tennis shoes are no fun! We saw some people wearing flip flops, but would think their feet must have been killing them if they wore them all day! Maybe they had them in their backpacks and changed into them when the rain hit.
Have fun and see you there!

Having been 6 times in August I feel I can speak with a little authority on this... Everything everyone has said is true, it is very busy and hot, hot, hot! The parks start to quieten down slightly mid August, when schools go back. The down side to that is the hours shorten in direct proportion to how busy it is. If the hours are long, count on it being packed. When the hours shorten, it'll be 'very' slightly less packed.
See you in August...
Ian
