About extending a stay at the front desk

Hi, DVC members...I've enjoyed visiting!

DW and I are non-DVCers who got a last-minute AP rate for a Studio at SSR this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday...there was no availability on Monday or Tuesday. Currently, we have ressies at WL (AAA rate) for Monday and Tuesday, but neither of us are too keen on resort-switching on such a short trip.

A DVC friend (she'll be at OKW the same weekend) suggested that the front desk at SSR might be able to do something for us as far as extending our stay for 2 nights. Apparently, individual resorts have some flexibility in that regard, so even if the main Disney computers are showing no availability, she suggested we might get lucky if we ask the front desk.

Do any of you have experiences with (or hunches about) this? I know enough about DVC to know that the resorts are more booked during weekdays because of the point differential, so I'm skeptical. Still, our DVC friend seemed optimistic...do you think her optimism is warrentred?

Also, can anyone hazard a guess as to whether, if the front desk is able to extend our ressie, they might do so at the AP rate of $159?

Thanks...

I'm sorry but I don't have a clue. I just wanted to say hello to you and comment that my parents don't live all that far from you! (Oneonta just sort of jumped out at me). Sorry. :guilty:

I have heard, but can not confirm, that last minute cash stays arranged through resort front desks are rack rate only. You were lucky to get the AP rate for your ights, I tried to get an AP rate at POP for June 9th, but had to pay rack rate...I called daily while we we're at OKW to try for the AP rate (as a CM suggested) but it never became available.

AP rate is probably nonattainable since even rack rates are sold out at this time. You should probably check in daily with CRO in case anyone cancels out. Good luck!

I think that since you are checking in with an AP rate, that should the Monday and Tuesday nights become available, they would extend that rate to you. I stayed at the WL on a pass holder rate and asked about adding onto our stay if possible. They had nights available at the pass holder rate.
I think that your chances are a little more than 50/50.
What is the cancellation policy for the AAA room rates at the WL? Would you have time to cancel them without penalty if you wait to check into the SSR?

I'm asking because I'm dealing with a similar scenario. I have a waitlist, but need to cancel the back up ressie before 5 days out.

I recently extended my stay at HH by one day.

I was staying on points and had a day rained out by TS Alberto. I stopped by the desk and asked about adding a day as a cash reservation. The had me call member services who was able to add on a day for $285 in a 1 bed room.

The morning I was due to leave I checked out/in and kept my room. The three people in line in front of me also checked out/in.

Our experience with extending at stay at POFQ was that they could give us rack rate, but we had to call and ask if we wanted AP rate. That only helps with part of your question, though.

Cinderpals- According to our TA, it is "normally" a 1-night penalty for a cancellation within 5 days...but she also said that Disney has been known to waive the penalty for an "internal" move.

Thanks for all the responses...I guess we'll see when we get there. If we need to move, we don't mind moving to WL :)
