My mom will be renting an electric wheelchair when arriving at the park but I know that there is a really long walk from the parking lot all the way through City Walk and into the parks. There is no way that she will be able to make it that distance without a considerable amount of pain. Even with the few moving sidewalks taking you part of the way there is still a long way to go.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get an electric wheelchair at the parking lot area or even just a regular wheelchair and use it to get through to the front gates and then exchange it for an electric wheelchair once she is in the park?

Thanks for your help!

What she is probably renting is an ecv or scooter. It is a little different than a power wheelchair; if you ask for a power wheelchair, people you are talking to will be confused. None of the parks rent power wheelchairs, but all of them have ecvs/scooters. The off site places will also rent ecvs to anyone, but will only rent a power wheelchair to people who use one at home.
I don't have access to my notes with links here, but have you thought of renting an ecv from one of the off site rental companies? If you do, the price is a little less per day than renting at the parks, you will have it whenever you need it (even at the resort), don't have to worry about her walking to the rental places and don't have to worry about whether they will run out of them at the parks. Rental at the parks is first come, first served.

Here is a link to a thread where I posted some pff site ECV/Scooter rental places :)

As far as Universal...the walk from the parking garage IS long....but there is a cnveyer type walk way in the middle all the way thru to CityWalk where there IS again alot of walking to get the either US or IOA (there are directional signs all over the place tp let you know where to go)

It seems to me that there is a wheelchair rental right around the (and Im almost 99% positive)
area where you come out of the garage to start making your way to CityWalk....its off in a corner as I recall so you kinda have to be looking for it but there is a sign or I wouldn't even be remembering it :)

If you need anymore help feel free to email or PM me....or ask here!! :)

UPDATE!!! This was just found on the Universal Site...

RENTALS
Stroller and Wheelchair Rentals
Guests can rent strollers, wheelchairs and Electric Convenience Vehicles upon entrance to both parks and to the left side of each park's entrance. Manual wheelchairs are also available at the Rotunda area of the parking structure.
The rental fees are:

Strollers & Wheelchairs $8.00* per day
Double Strollers: $14.00* per day
Electronic Convenience Vehicles $35.00* per day
(with a driver’s license as deposit)
*Prices subject to change without notice

Just so you clearly understand, the first wheelchair rental area is in the rotunda which is at the end of the first people mover conveyor between the garage and citywalk. They do not rent electrics there, only manual. You will have to pay just to rent a manual chair to go from there to the main gate where the electric rentals are located, but that is what you must do if you can't make the long walk otherwise and do not wish to rent an offsite chair.
When returning at night, ask for someone to escort you back to your car with the ECV, dropping off the manual chair along the way. They are not required to do this but the 2 times we needed that service we just asked and they were happy to help us. Otherwise I guess you'd have to reverse the pprocedure you came in by.

One extra tip- If you have a handicap tag for your car- when you first arrive at the park by car try to get to the entrance booths all the way on the left and make the attendant aware that you have that tag- he or she will direct you to put on your flasher lights and stay to the left to enter the 1st and most accessible garage, dedicated to handicap only parking- a BIG relief especially at day's end when you have to trek back to your car. (and don;t forget to turn those flashers OFF!)
Have a great time
