Someone please help! :lmao: I'm trying to decide what restaurant would be good for dinner at Disney Studios. ( we're going to Sci Fi for lunch) It's just me, DH and DD (4). I originally thought 50's Prime Time, but then read so much stuff about the scolding that I was kind of scared it would freak my DD out. (she's kind of shy) then I thought about Mama Melrose, but I haven't read great things about it. ( the menu looked really good though and DH loves Italian food). Has anyone had a good experience there ? if anyone has ANY suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it !!! Thank you in advance!! ~ Jill :cutie:

I was very surprised by Mama Melrose. Picked it only for Fantasmic package.
Appetizers were good, antipasto and brushetta were the best, fried calamari ok. I chose chicken parm. Cutlet was good, didn't care for the sauce, just scraped it off. Sauce is really a matter of choice. DH got steak and was very happy with it. Desserts phenomenal. Tiramasu very good and my parents chose a low sugar lemon meringue type. I had a bellini which was good, had a touch of raspberry. Service was top notch. Not a quiet restaurant (you're in a theme park) yet very relaxing, DHS to me is a place where you need a little break. If you have a Fantasmic package, 1TS you get app/dinner/dessert. Was happy to have reserved seat even though Fantasmic wasn't full that evening.

We like both of these. MM had really good food and service was great. It is kind of out of the way and was not crowded. We did it with the fantasmic package and it was nice.

We also really like prime time. They know when to back off and would pick on you or DH instead of your little one. Food is good. Love the fried chicken.

What about hollywood and vine? Playhouse disney characters for you little one though no F package. We like the food here though others have had issues.

The food at MM was outstanding, some of the best we had. DH had the mussels appetizer and they were perfectly cooked (he was extremely impressed), a flatbread ("it's pretty good pizza, but it is just pizza"), and tiramisu (really good but not out of this world). I had the tomato and mozzarella app and the penne a la vodka, which were both the best examples of those things I've ever had, and the honey ricotta cheesecake, which was nice but I was too angry to enjoy it because ...

... the service sucked. Our waiter disappeared for 45 minutes just as we were finishing our entrees. We had to complain to the manager to get him to come back. We'd have left without dessert but DH had his heart set on tiramisu because it's so hard to find really good tiramisu. (And this was, so for him it was worth it.)

we have had a great experience at MM. when we mentioned we would like to be out in time for the turning on of osborne lights--no problem!:yay:

We really like Mama Melrose - both the food and the atmosphere are great - it was relaxing for the adults but not too quiet for the kids!

Prime time is all for fun. My son had such a blast teasing the server with his elbows on the table. The server put ketchup on the table where the elbows would go! It was so funny!

We have been happy with MM and 50s PT. We have ADRs at both next month.

We had a GREAT experience at Mama Melrose. I didn't really expect much but we had booked them as part of the Fantasmic Pkg. The food was amazing, the service was spectacular, we couldn't have asked for anything more. It's on our list to repeat in June! :thumbsup2

We actually were thinking about going to H & V for the Playhouse Disney Breakfast...... I think that she would LOVE to see all the characters. I'm glad to hear you liked it because I've also read some questionable reviews. BUt we kind of figured that it all depends on each person, so we're willing to give it a go!! thanks for responding !!

We're going to Sci-Fi for lunch on our upcoming trip and also debated between Mama Melrose and 50s PT. All of the kids picked 50s PT. We're going to order several fried chicken dinners and eat family style. And hey, just hanging out in the "living room" there is a lot of fun!

ya'll have given me much "food for thought" :rotfl2: we might have to skip Sci-Fi and do MM for dinner and 50's Prime time for lunch !! thanks everyone !!!!

We went to Mama Melrose's last trip and really liked it. We had the minestrone soup which was good. I had the eggplant and my DH had steak. Both were excellent. We went at 5:30 on a day the park closed at 6:00 pm and the place was fairly quiet. The service was quick, efficient and but not hurried.

On previous trips we've been to the 50's Primetime and had a lot of fun. They give you pretty big portions and the food is pretty good. That atmosphere if what really make the place. We found the staff fun and entertaining. Just remember, no elbows on the table.

I've also been to the SciFi Diner and it was ok - not great but the salad and chili made a decent lunch. The movie previews and news reals were fun. I always like the "kitchen of the future".

Hope this helps some!

We ate at Mama Melrose's last week for the Fantasmic Package. We enjoyed the food but, the entrees showed up 1 minute after the appetizers came, I'm not kidding. We sent the entrees back.

Mamma Melrose is one of our favorites we have always had good food and service. 50's prime time food is good but might not be good for a shy child. My 20 year old doesn't like to go there because of the attention. lol

50's: It all depends on your server. We've been and had a really playful server that scolded my son and husband for wearing hats at the table and tried to make us eat our veggies (all in good fun). :rotfl: And then we've had servers that seemed pretty busy and didn't get into the role at all. But all-in-all the food is great (particularly the fried chicken) and kids love the "make-your-own sundae".:woohoo:

Mama Melrose's: Last year was our first visit here and it's now a favorite. The atmosphere was great (almost romantic w/the dim lighting) but very family-friendly. The food was fantastic, especially the basket of Artisan breads w/assorted toppings. Everyone ordered something different and everything was delicious (Chicken Parmesan, Pork Tenderloin, Spaghetti, 4-Cheese Fettucine w/Chicken). My youngest son ordered the (individual) pizza and said it was the best he ever had. And don't even get me started about their desserts! :cool1: We are definitely dining here again on our next visit.

We love Mama Melrose. We eat there very trip! We've always had good service and food.

I have been to:

Brown Derby
50s Prime Time
Sci

I would say that 50s and sci are the best value, and I had wonderful food.

The brown derby....well, not worth 2TS. I can eat like this at a nice restaurant at home, so I was not impressed.

I like themed restaurants.......next time I am trying Mama Melrose.....I heard wonderful things about it, and the pictures look great. Yes I can get Italian at home, but I liked the fantasmic dinner package option!

I have had good experiences at both Prime Time and Mama Melrose's. Actually, we just ate at Mama Melrose's for the first time this past trip -- we had never even walked back to that area before lol! Our waiter was great, Dh tends to go through drinks really quickly and our waiter started bringing him two at a time :lmao: DS is a pretty picky eater but he surprised the heck out of us and ate calamari and also had the kids chicken and pasta. The only bad thing was the veggies that came with it were oversalted but he enjoyed the chicken, pasta, and fruit so no big deal. I had the mushroom ravioli and Dh had the chicken parm which we both enjoyed. Wanted to add that I had the chocolate gelato as well and YUMMY!!

We've eaten at Prime Time many times and I wouldn't worry over them 'scolding' your little one. They tend to leave the little ones alone and focus instead on the adults. And they tend to be pretty good (although YMMV) about 'reading' your family and seeing whether you are into the act or would prefer to be left alone. The food here is good...comfort food with great milkshakes :goodvibes Hope you find something your family will like!!
