We have our flights booked for 1 -22nd dec, we have a 1 bed @ SSR booked 7 -22nd Dec. I have enough developers points to book for the 1 -7th, however i cant use them until 7 months prior. After reading the other posts about dec i have decided my chances of getting a 1 bed or other at ssr is low. So I was thinking of booking at one of the disneyworld collection (maybe poly)using my points and paying cash for the weekends.
Any thoughts?

I am in a very similar boat as you and hope/pray there will be openings for this time of year

SSR is very large and 1 bedroom units are usually the last to sell out. I wouldn't rule out SSR until you've called for the reservation at 7 months and given the waitlist (if you need one) a chance to work. I think you'll get it and won't even have to waitlist. FWIW, I don't recall reading that SSR or OKW is sold out for those early December dates. I think you what you are reading here about early December being sold out applies to the smaller DVC resorts.

Early December is very popular with DVC members, but it's not nearly that popular with the rest of Disney's guests. You have plenty of time to make a reservation at one of the non-DVC resorts if you can't get into SSR. Even if you have to waitlist SSR 1 bedroom, I'm very sure it will come through for you.

Don't use points for a non-DVC resort until you are 100% sure you won't get into a DVC resort. Once you use points for a non-DVC resort, you can't cancel the reservation and use the points for a DVC resort reservation. Also, making that non-DVC reservation will cost you $95 plus the points.

If you are nervous about possibly having to waitlist, make a back up room only reservation through CRO/WDWTC for cash. All you'll need to do is give them a 1 night deposit which is refundable if you cancel before the deadline. (I think no penalty if you cancel at least 5 days before arrival).

Above is my opinion and what I would do. Others may have a different opinion. OK with me. :teeth:

Good luck!

We made our reservations using developer points the other day. We were planning on doing a day by day reservation. When they found out we were using developer points they let us make the reservation for the entire trip on the first day. They said it is easier that way because there is a lot of paper work involved when using developer points. This may help you, you should be able to make the entire reservation the first day.

Also, you cannot waitlist with developer points, just so you know.
