About days left on park hopper tickets..

I hope this is the right forum to ask this. This is pretty much the only forum I think I've even posted in also. LOL

I'm curious... we recently went on our first trip to Disney World and all of us had 5 day park hopper tickets. We only used 4 days of those 5 days and as far as I have been told (and read here/etc.) that last day on all our tickets (2 adults- 2 children) will last forever- we can use them again at any time in the future, right?

Well I have a few questions about that.
1.) Is there any way to upgrade from the 5 day hopper with one day left on it to an annual pass?

2.) if the answer to #1 is no... just curious about something else. If I were to return to Disney World the next time WITHOUT my husband (which is the other adult park hopper passholder that has one day left on it) would I somehow be able to use his day left? Or would it have to stay as HIS ONLY ticket for him to use in the future? Well what if he doesn't plan on ever going again? I'm serious... it's just not his thing and he's made comments about the next time we go- I can just go alone (which wouldn't bother me. If he doesn't want to go- who wants to go to Disney World by FORCING a person to go with them? LOL That's no fun at all)
Don't get me wrong- he enjoyed the kids (and me) enjoying themselves on this trip we took recently. But it's just not his thing to go again and again- like I certainly would like to do. LOL

So anyway- I guess what I'm asking is if I went back and got another 5 day park hopper to use in addition to my one day left from my previous 5 day park hopper- could I also use that last day he has left on his 5-day park hopper- like if I'm going to be there long enough to go to DW 7 days while there?? Because if not... it's probably never going to be used. wasted.

Oh and I have another question that I guess I will just go ahead and ask on this thread.

About annual passes... I have heard here on this board and other places that with an annual pass you get some sort of discount with some hotel reservations? I have even heard mention that you don't actually have to have the AP when you make the reservation- as long as you have it when you check in.

Well, how do you get the discount? Is that if you only make reservations by calling the hotel and saying you have an AP (even if you don't really have one just yet) or what?

I'm especially referring to the links that are threads stickied to the top of every forum here about discount rates at hotels. With an AP could you get a discount even on top of those discounted rates through those links? Or not?

Please let me know. I might possibly maybe (haha) be making plans for another trip to DW for mid Feb so I need to know rather quickly so I can get my ducks in order.

Let's see if I can help.

If you take your used with days left passes to guest relations, they can prorate what is left and apply that discount to your AP. You'll be allowed pretty much what the day was worth when you bought it.

Absolutely. There is no way of identifying the owner of that ticket, and you can do so without hesitation. We've done just that in the past.

Well, how do you get the discount?

When you call CRO, you request information on Annual Pass discounts (CRO doesn't use the term "AP" ) They will tell you, and you book. You will then have to have an AP when you book. Generally the CM booking you in will ask to see it. An FYI: only ONE person booked into the room needs to have an AP to get the discount, and YES, it CAN be a CHILD's AP (did that the summer of '01!)

Hope this helps! Enjoy planning, but warning you that AP's generate at least 2 trips in a year (I had 3), and it's hard to go back once you've had 'em.

I just used a leftover day from my husband's ticket recently. You should be able to do it with no problem.

LOL@the annual passes making you want to go back more often. I already have that "bug" without the AP so I'm in for it eh? LOL OH well, it makes it considerably more affordable with an AP (cost of parks already paid for) as well as the discounts. And I'm all for saving money.

I think I was thinking about the Universal Studios 2-park tickets we had for 5 cons days (and only used 3 days. ugh I wish they let you keep the unused days but they don't!) because they had our names on them and they made us sign everytime we went in (me and husband- not the kids though haha). Thank you for reminding me that the WDW tickets did not have our names on them.

Okay, so the AP would have the discount only considering the unused portion of the 5 day park hopper? Am I reading you correctly? Well that is saving some. I wish they'd take into consideration the entire amount paid for the 5 day park hopper but in this case beggars can't be choosers. HAHA
Hey, could I use BOTH days left over on our 5 day park hoppers to get discounted for both of them on one annual pass? That would be nice. Let me know? I really appreciate your help.

What is CRO (to call to get discount rates with AP)?? Sorry, I'm lost on that. Customer representative operator or something like that? The discounts on those links at the top of every forum here say they must be made and confirmed online. So I guess you can't get AP discount on top of that discount. Ohwell.

Technically, in order to upgrade to an annual pass and receive credit for the entire price your originally paid for the 5 day park hopper, you would need to upgrade within 7 days of the first use of the hopper ticket.

What you can do, though, is get a credit for the remaining unused days on the hopper. The credit will be roughly equal to the number of unused days divided by the total number of days times the price you paid for the hopper. For example, if you paid $200 for the 5 day pass and used 4 days, you can get a credit of 1/5 of the $200 or $40 to apply to the cost of a new annual pass. You will have to do this on site and only one pass per new AP can be used for a credit.

You can use the last day of your husband's hopper ticket. Disney has no way to know who actually uses a hopper ticket. Families often do what you might like to do. I have personally used up days on hopper tickets origianlly purchased for my daughter and my niece. It is true that the back of the hopper pass says that they are not transferrable. However, your family paid for the tickets and your family will be using them.

Another thing I didn't see mentioned, (if someone did, I'm sorry) is that if you used any PLUS days on your ticket you have to upgrade to a PAP. (or maybe that's just if you upgrade within the 7 days, anyone know?)

I went to guest relations to see if I could apply the days left on a hopper to get a new 7 day hopper. In that case I would have gotten very little. It was not worht it. I just bought new passes and also used the old ones.

We always get our passes mixed up so it is hard to say which pass we take to a park. You will not have trouble using both passes.

Thanks again for all the help with my questions, explaining that abbreviation for me, as well as the links! I appreciate it.

So in your opinion, since you are all very experienced and knowledgable about all things WDW (as I am sure finding out on this website- which is GREAT btw. )- what do you think is the best option for me in my situation? I think I know but I want your opinion on this.

If I go (solo or with a friend) in Feb and my stay is 8 or 9 nights. That will be arriving late night the first day so scratch that for the parks... and the last day would be a halfday so I'm not sure I'd want to use that in the parks either. So this would be either 7 or 8 days in the park. I have seen it mentioned that 8 days is the break even point on getting an AP.

I really don't know if I'll be able to go to WDW again within a year. I'm not POSITIVE about that.... but it's probably doubtful. DH is talking about not going again as a "family" until the youngest is old enough to ride the majority of the rides (since this last time she was just over 2yrs old and could only ride a FEW rides. Any with height restrictions -even 36inches- she was too short for them... and that meant almost the entire time for 8 days we had to do the "parent swap" thing and rode rides seperately with our older children. So he doesn't want to go again until we can avoid that next time- so probably we won't go again, as a family atleast, for a few years.

I have a day left on my hopper and a day left on his hopper. Looking at prices at first I was considering just getting a 4 or 5 day park hopper, using that and then using the left over days on our other park hoppers. But now I have seen a good deal on a 7 day park hopper PLUS w/character breakfast also.

So my options in my mind at this time is either get an AP with a small discount using one leftover day on my park hopper and then just hope I'll go again in a year (I should probably also mention that I will probably stay off-site to save bigtime on hotel costs since I won't be spending much time in the hotel anyway and most likely will be renting a vehicle for my time there- still cheaper than staying onsite) ..... I like the idea of AP discounts all over the place plus free parking.

OR get that 7 day park hopper and use it plus the 1 or 2 days leftover on our previous 5 day park hoppers. The disadvantage to that is that I pay parking everyday like we did last time (it adds up!) and the advantage (that I can see) to that is that if I end up NOT going that many days to WDW (like if I spend some time at Universal Studios/downtown Disney/etc.) then any left over days can be used ANYTIME- even if years from now... right?

So what would you do if you were me?
