First off, thanks to all here for sharing such valuable information to help everyone live out their Disney dreams (especially in these rough times).
I have a few questions about the Costco AP stuff combined with the free birthday from DL. I was wondering if I could buy 4 of the Costco AP passes, get 4 $50.00 gift cards, combine them (gift cards) with the birthday free (69) to get another AP pass for a total of 5 AP passes for the family.
Are the gift cards to Costco, or to Disneyland.
Is it doable?
Thanks:confused3

The gift cards are for Disney, not Costco, so you could definitely use the $200 toward an AP. As far as the gift card in lieu of free admission ($69), I really don't know! Sounds like a clever plan, though! I'm sure that if you look on the thread about the birthday promotion you can find out whether or not the gift card from it can be put towards a pass.

Sorry, don't have an answer but I love your idea. I can easily spend $150 on food during a trip but only $50 on merchandise. Thinking of doing the same thing so I hope you (we) get an answer.

From the Birthday Fun Day page:

You may use the Birthday Fun Card only towards the purchase of merchandise items at participating merchandise locations owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World® and Disneyland® Resorts. The Birthday Fun Card may not be used towards the payment of Walt Disney World® or Disneyland® Resort Hotel room night folio charges, or a Disney Cruise Line® reservation aboard Disney Cruise Line®, or towards the purchase of any food and beverage items, alcohol, cigarettes, spa services and products, or personal services such as face painting, caricature drawings, hair braiding, and hair wrapping

The Birthday Fun Card is also not accepted at Disneyland® Resort Operating Participant locations or any other locations or kiosks that are not owned and operated by the owners of the Disneyland® Resort, including but not limited to, Midway Games, Names Unraveled, Jewel of Orleans, Silhouette Studio, Portrait Artists, Parasol Cart, Heraldry Shop, Crystal Shops (Crystal Arts & Crystal d'Orleans), Paradise Pier Face Painting, Airbrush Tattoos, Rubio Portrait Artist or at Downtown Disney® District locations except World of Disney® Store, Marceline's Confectionery, and the Downtown Disney® District Pin Cart. The Birthday Fun Card is also not accepted at Disneyland® Resort outdoor vending carts.

etc etc

They don't mention using it to upgrade, but that "used for merchandise" bit would make me not try to use it towards an upgrade. But since it's not specifically mentioned it might be worth a try.

Thanks for the responses!
We have a surprise trip planned for our triplets in April for their birthdays, and we plan on letting them use their gift cards they get for their bday.
DH's bday is also in April, and that is when I hope to get the APs.
My sis called me from Costco this morning. The Costco in Rancho Cucamunga has the passes. I am hoping to have $$$ saves to purchase the tickets when we go to DLand in April.
I sure hope this is doable.
Thanks again for responding.:hippie:

WOW, triplets, how cute is that? and I can only imagine all of the work involved, not to mention the initial pain, of having triplets.
I hope that everything works out for you and your family very well, and as well am hoping that you all have a wonderful and fantabulous time visiting Disneyland! :)
What a wonderful gift for ones birthday! if you do not mind my asking, how old will your babies be?
I am an April baby too! :) I am not part of a triplet set, though he he! ;) I made my debut solo.

Thanks, Gisele for asking about my children. Having multiples is quite an adventure! 99.9% of the time it is true bliss. Right now, they are 6 years old, (2 girls, 1 boy) losing teeth like you wouldn't believe. My DH's bd is also in April so we have lots of cake in that month. I have been planning the day we can take them to Disneyland for years in my head, and a few months ago, I convinced DH they would be the perfect age for Disneyland and made reservations thru Costco for the PPH.
Now with the faultering economy, I feel if my family will spend any disposable income we have, it should be at Disneyland! (Hense the number crunching for APs)
Yikes, I am babbling! I hope you will be attending DL in April, we will be there from the 5-9, and hopefully on the 16th-?......:cloud9:

No, you are not forgiven for babbling, because you were not! :)

Thanks, Gisele for asking about my children.

You are most welcome! :)

You have nice and interesting tales to tell. It is awesome that there are so many birthdays for your family to celebrate in April.

My tentative plan, has me returning on April 4th.

If you do not know about the on line sweepstakes for Disney's What Will You Celebrate Tour, click here: So you can enter once per day, for an opportunity to win a trip for four people to either Disneyland, or to Walt Disney World.
Also you can read when Disney's What Will You Celebrate Tour will be in a city near you.

Did I miss something? Is it possible to get a $50 gift certificate when you buy an AP at Costco? Details please!

Does all Costcos sell the annual passes? If so, are they selling the ones that have no restrictions? Ours are ending October 13 and we were not going to renew at this time since we will not be going again (after today) until the end of January and would hate to lose those months. Any help would be appreciated!

About the Costco APs: the SoCal Costcos are selling a Deluxe AP for $269 and it comes with a $50 gift card (Disney)! The card can be used to upgrade the DAP to a Premium, to help purchase other passes, for merchandise, and I don't know what else. There are no residency restrictions but as of right now, you can only obtain them from a S CA store. Supposedly they will be offered online at some point. I'd LOVE to buy one but have no access to a store, so I hope they go online soon! Validation is supposed to be by May 2009.

Sure wish I knew someone in SoCal!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer this. I wonder how long Costco will be selling the passes? We are at Disney today (My oldest got dreamed with Fast Passes this morning so we will go to City Hall later and see if they will give them to the rest of us, I have the time and place) and the crowds do not seem to be bad at all.
So, if I stop by Costco today and get them as long as I use them the first time before May of 2009 we will be ok? Our current ones expire October 13 and I was going to wait until January to get them again because I know we will not be back before then and did not want to waste three months.
By the way, gasoline is about $3.47 a gallon by the parks!

Yes, that plan would work! The nearest Costco, from what others posted, is either the one in Fullerton at the corner of Harbor and Orangethorpe (~3 miles from DL) or the Cypress Costco on Katella and Walker, or possibly the Costco in Garden Grove (don't know where it is specifically).

Other Costcos that have been mentioned that currently have this deal:
-Tustin
-Temecula
-Burbank
-Alhambra
-Inland Empire (don't know if that's a store or region)
-La Mesa and Santee Costcos in the San Diego area

Supposedly all of the S CA Costcos have the deal, but those above have it for sure as people have purchased them there and posted about it.

I'm trying to think if I know anyone who might get one for me before my trip (Oct 17), but my mind is coming up blank. I have hoppers for my family but I need an ap for myself. I have one reserved at the GCH hotel with my stay, but I'd love to get the $50 gift card! I used to have family in the area, but they've all moved or passed on. We get in late on Friday and don't have a car, so I can't get one while we're there. Still thinking, though...

Is it doable?

I would have to believe this would not be allowed because it says that "You may use the Birthday Fun Card only towards the purchase of merchandise items at participating merchandise locations...."

APs are not sold at "merchandise locations.

Therefore, I do not think you could use them for this.

However, no one here will know for certain. (It can't hurt to inquire. And I applaud your truly creative thinking!)
