I've only done one character meal, and that was at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. We went for breakfast. We didn't have any really young kids with us, but everyone liked it and I'm sure younger children would as well. Plus, it was very good food! Good luck planning your tirp!

We have tried all of the character meals in the past year. We enjoyed them all - some more than others. My DD will be 10 on Sunday.

Favorites for b-fast
1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian Resort) for breakfast - Alice from Wonderland, Mad Hatter, 2 Pooh characters and Mary Poppins. Buffet - been 4 times. Dinner is good as well. We just had DDs birthday party here on Saturday with 3 friends and their parents.

O'Hana's - Polynesian Resortfor breakfast - Lilo & Stitch, Mickey & Pluto - family style food. Been three times - enjoyed them all

Cape May Cafe (Beach Club Resort) quite and more laid back than some at breakfast -Buffet - Chip & Dale, Minnie, Goofy.

Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom) for b-fast and dinner good as well.

Dinner
Liberty Tree Tavern (Magic Kingdom)- some love it some hate it - we really enjoy. DD loves Chip & Dale and they appear here along with Goofy, Pluto and Minnie

Lunch - Garden Grill - Epcot - Another more laid back location - and again Chip & Dale, Mickey & Pluto. They have changed the menu a bit since we were there in Sept, but we enjoyed it

Animal Kingdom has Donald's Breakfast - we did this once - it was a buffet and pretty good. I did not care for the atmosphere as much as some others.

Here's a link to all the character dining.

We love Crystal Palace in the MK for lunch. We have been twice before and are going back. My kids (ages 2, 6, 7) love the Pooh characters.

Character interaction at Cape May Cafe at the BC with Goofy was great. However, my kids really were not into the breakfast items.

None of us like Garden Grill in Epcot the last time we went (and we used to love it). Service was not so great and the food was a little yucky.

As Famous as it is, we did not enjoy Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary.
We ate there for breakfast and felt like it was a little on the nasty side.
Just not too clean and such.
Our favorite character breakfasts are 'Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast at the Polynesian. The character interaction was great. The location is superb. We had a table by the window and had a great view of Cinderella's Castle. Great food as well. Also loved Cape May's character Breakfast at The Beach Club. Laid back, good food, and the characters were dressed so cute! Like they were going to the beach.
Donald's Breakfastosaurus was okay, not a favorite though.

We loved Ohana's for breakfast. Stitch was so much fun and the family style food was great! Chef Mickeys was wonderful for dinner! We will definitely be re-visiting these two restaurants in October.

I'd say Crystal Palace, especially if you get a really early reservation. Then you can eat before the park opens, and be in an empty park.

We loved Chef mickey's for dinner at the Contemporary resort. You get the main characters: Mickey, minnie, Donald, goofy and pluto. It was great. Not too many choices on the buffet, but characters and quality of food was great!
We also liked 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. We met Cinderella, prince charming, the fairy godmother, and the two mice. Food was excellent, but service and characters a bit slow.
Another we tried was the garden grill at epcot. Characters were great except for mickey who didn't seem into character. I didn't like the food. Rotating restaurant was pretty cool though.
