I understand Disney has a percentage of DVC rooms available to let out through Central Reservations with the remainder available to the membership.

Of the remaining rooms, is there a certain number held for cash discount reservations and the rest on points, or do reservations made on points take precedence over cash discount reservations? Do those rooms become available then to members for cash if released from Central Reservations?

And, is the cash discount rate the same, for example, for all studios irrespective of DVC resort?

Cash discount for members IF it is available will always be 25% off rack rate for any villa or studio at any DVC resort and can only be booked by the member through MS not through Central.
Don't know how they determine when they'll offer member discount or for how many villas.

I don't think they (DVC) will "hold" rooms for cash but I have heard that they can sometimes "pull back" villa from Central so a member can reserve it. It is my understanding that Central does not release DVC rooms back to DVC, but that it sometimes can be done when MS makes that request.

There are always two separate inventories of DVC rooms. There's points inventory. And inventory that is always cash and bookable through Central due to what is owned by DVC and at some point ( 60 days or more ? but not certain exactly what the window is ) DVC turns over to Central unreserved villas or those that they determine will go unreserved on points and also when members trade out of DVC ( to vacation via RCI, etc. ) then inventory that could have been reserved using that member's points will become available to book through Central.

Thanks. That helps clarify things.

There were no rooms available either on points or for the cash discount. If I stick to my current time frame, only Central Reservations has rooms available, and they quoted me $470 a night for a studio.

I've owned since '92, and lost track of how expensive the rooms can be, even if it's a studio.

The small (2-4%) of villas retained by DVC is mostly used to replace member inventory when rooms are being rehabbed. Most of the cash inventory comes from points used by members for non-DVC options like the cruise and Disney Collection trades. Those points are used to secure cash reservations available thru DRC. Cash reservations are also available (thru DRC) from "breakage" inventory - unreserved DVC villas in the last 60 days. That inventory (breakage) is used to offset member dues and is included as a line item in the resort budget each year.

MS first priority is to reserve DVC villas using points. When it becomes apparent (either from current reservation status or from historical data for specific dates) that villas will not be needed for point reservations, MS will make those available to members with the 25% cash discount.

As already mentioned, the member discount is only available thru MS, but those cash reservations can be linked to point reservations to allow for a seamless stay. Cash reservations made thru DRC cannot be linked to a DVC point reservation, but daily housekeeping will be provided - unlike cash nights reserved thru MS.

In addition, some cash inventory available thru DRC comes from developer inventory of villas not yet declared into DVC - presently only at AKV, SSR (THVs), BLT and VGC.
