About booking Disney resorts through Expedia.ca

My family and I just recently decided we would take our second tript to Walt Disney World during the Quebec March Break - 3rd to 10th, so I've only just started looking at the best deals I can find. I have a copy of "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2005" by Bob Sehlinger and although very informative, I'm still a little confused on some of the possible discounts on Disney resorts they speak of.

For sure, we want to book a room at either one of the All-Star Resorts or the new Pop Century resort (though we would ideally like the All-Star Movies resort) inside Walt Disney World. And I read in the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2005" that you can get discounts on hotel rates through Expedia, so I checked it out and according to the site, there are no availabilities from March 3rd to the 10th for none of the Value Resorts. But if I try to book through the Disney World site with the same dates, it seems there are, in fact, availabilities. It's all very confusing, so I'm wondering if maybe Expedia just hasn't set up the deals for those dates yet or...well, I can't really think of much else, except the daunting possibility of every single room in the Value Resorts actually being booked from March 3rd to the 10th.

So here are my questions:

Is there something wrong with Expedia, and if not...

Should I just book through the "rack rates" or wait a while for Expedia discounts to become available?

...or are there any other discounts on resorts for Canadians that I'm not aware of?

As far as I know Expedia sometimes buys blocks of rooms or packages and then resells them... they may just not have any to resell right now. Also be careful about booking through Expedia because they usually have restrictive refund rules. If you go this route be sure to get travel insurance in case something happens.

It's a little early to find the best discounts for March because Disney usually releases its specials about 3-6 months ahead of time. For more info on deals try Mousesavers.

The only other disounts this early on would probably be for CAA members. (You can request them either thru CAA travel agents or by calling Disney CRO and specifically requesting a CAA rate.)

There are also AP discounts usually but those aren't released until much later.
You could also check Expedia again in a few weeks time. Disney may not have released rooms to them yet.

The new rates for 2007 have just come out.

If you have CAA, you can get CAA discount (if available) on ROOM ONLY rate. You would have to call Disney, can't do CAA on their site. If you take a package, I find the day of our flight home (ours has been mid day) you can't do anything except pack and go to airport, I would book ROOM ONLY for the night before our flight. You would have 2 reservations - 1 - for package 1- for Room only. When you check in tell them you have 2 reservations and you would like the same room. The last day of the package you would have to check out and then check in for room only reservation. If you take the ROOM ONLY for the last night, you would not be paying for the dining option for the day of your flight home. The dining option is good to midnight of your check out day.

Can you book the dining option when you book through Expedia. I think the dining option is great.

If that was me I would book through Disney direct or one the the agencies that knows about Disney. I have done this 2x and when a new price code came out, she was able to get the new price. She was able to book my dining reservations for me (saved me the long distance calls). They know Disney. Whatever way you go you still have to pay in US$.
