My BIL just joined DVC and invited our family to go on vacation with them this summer in a 2br villa at Bay Lake. But as a guest of a DVC member, I have some questions. I have always booked thru Disney and have gotten a package deal. So, now, what's the best place to buy passes? And I guess the Dining Plan and Magical Express are out now since we are not doing a package deal? What about Extra Magic Hours? Since we are not the DVC members, I am just not sure where to go for the answers. I am sure I have more questions but that is all I can think of right now!

As long as you are a listed guest you can still use magical express. If you have your room key from any disney resort you can use extra magic hours.

Dining plan is a bit more complicated as some have suggested that the old rule of "everyone must be on the plan", may have been modified. I'm not sure about that.

I can't help you with Magical Express as we live in FL and drive to WDW, but you would be eligible for the Dining Plan and Extra Magic Hours. Your BIL would have to book the Dining Plan (and I believe pay for it at the time of booking). If I recall correctly it can be booked up to one week before arrival. You can find specifics elsewhere on these boards with a search, but I believe everyone in the room has to be on the plan for each night booked.

Since you will be staying at a Disney resort you will be able to use the Extra Magic Hours. Your room keys will identify you as a Disney Resort guest. Make sure each member of the family has a key if you are going to use the Extra Magic Hours.

Hope this helps.

don't forget too that being a DVC member you get a good Annual Pass discount as one of the perks

Would if their family drives and our family wants to fly. I wonder if everybody in the party need to fly to use ME like the DDP. WE have gone to WDW three years in a row and were not planning on going this year but can't pass up this opportunity! Not sure how to pay them back either! They suggested to pick up tab a dinner one night but that doesn't seem like enough!

Doesn't matter - anyone OR everyone in the party on the reservation can use ME, and each person can use it according to their own arrival and departure.

ME and EMH and free parking at the theme parks are perks that go with ANY onsite stay in a Disney resort. So you're entitled to those, and it has nothing to do with DVC.

The very BEST way to pay them back is to make firm plans and don't change them. A DVC reservation is not like a regular reservation at a Disney resort. If there are changes in plans, serious consequences could occur, including your BIL losing the points!

If they say picking up a tab for dinner is enough, it's enough for them. However, that may be a bit moot if you're all on the DDP.

Other options would be one of the behind the scenes tours, Segway tours, fishing trip, fireworks boat trip, golf, spa, etc, etc. There is no shortage of ways to spend money at WDW!

We have always purchased our passes through Maple Leaf Tickets and have always gotten a great price with good service.

Not exactly. It appears you can add and drop people from your dining plan or change dining plans by splitting the reservation into segments, but everyone (age 3 and over) booked into the villa on a dining plan segment must have the same dining plan.
