??about AOL IM and blocking?

If you block someone do they no you blocked them? Can they still see if you are on line?
Just wondering...

I'm not positive, but I really don't think they know if you blocked them or if you are online. I know I've done this before and to friends and family (I was busy searching the internet for something and you always get those people that would interrupt every 2 seconds) and no one has ever said anything to me, so I doubt there was a way to know.

I keep getting IM's from people telling me to check out their erotic photos on line. I have often wanted to write back with something like, I know your mother is so proud of you, but I just hit the block and ignore button.
I think by blocking, they just don't know you are on line. If they try ti IM you anyway, I think they get the message that you are not signed in.

That IM thing is one of the reasons I got rid of AOL..a long time ago. I could not stand AOL anymore. Getting disconnected, all the annoying IMs, junk mail. At least I can say with Comcast I don't deal with ANY of that garbage. Those reasons alone make cable modem worth it!

On your settings you can go to edit options, edit preferences, privacy. There is a button you can set there so that only people on your buddy list can send you a message. I use this for myself & my 12yo DD since she uses IM with her friends. If someone is not on your buddy list they cannot send you a message at all. I never get messages from anyone I don't know this way.

It's the only way I'll allow DD to use IM at all.
