Hey Guys,

We're going to Disneyland for a few nights really soon, and I was wondering how we're going to sleep our 15 month old son in his pack n play in the same room as us. I've tried putting a sheet over the top in the past, and he does not like that! What do you guys do? He will no doubt be distracted and awakened by us, so I need some help here! I know I can count on you guys...Thanks!

We went a few years back when our now 3 year old was 16 mos and she slept no problem in her pack-in-play but I understand your worry. I am the same way wondering how it will go. We are now coming in 28 days with our 8 mos. old and I am having the same concerns. All I can recommend is that either you can have some trial runs at home having your baby sleep in your room in the pack-in-play a few nights. Also, if you are staying at a Disney resort, most resorts have rooms that have a curtain that you can pull that separates the room and the vanity area. I don't know if this is true at all the resorts as I have not stayed at all of them, but it is an idea. We are going to try and avoid doing this if we can just because there will be 3 adults and 2 children in our room and I will be needing to get up early to get ready each morning so that I can then get the kids when they wake up. Luckily for us, both our babes usually sleep until about 8:30 AM. We will see how that changes for us on vacation. They will probably get up at 6 and be crab apples the rest of the day. Oh well, the joys of parenting!

Three options I can think of...
1) Using the curtain in a moderate or deluxe to give them their own "room" until they fall asleep. For our DS we still need to be really quiet until he sleeps, but at least we can have the light on
2) Bring a baby monitor and hang out right outside the room
3) Go to sleep when he does :) Sometimes we're pretty tired, too!

Everytime I take a trip I worry about this too! We went to Disney in October w/ a 12 month old, 2 3/4 year old, and almost 4 year old. We put the older two in the bed with us (me and dh on each end), and the baby was in the pack and play, we closed the curtain and they all fell asleep. Then dh and I would get everything ready for after nap time (re-pack the diaper bag, etc) and when they all woke we were ready to go. Have a great trip and don't stress about this too much, it'll all work out. Hey, the baby may just sleep in the stroller while you're out walking and you won't even have to go back to the room!

** just re-read your question, and you're probably wondering about night time (duh!) - like I said above, just put your son in the pack and play, get the room dark, and he'll be asleep before you know it. I find it best to just ignore them (I know that sounds harsh, but when you keep making eye-contact, they keep doing the silly stuff to get your attention).

The first trip we brought our travel crib (he was 12 months) and ended up using it to lay clothes on! The second time (age 25 months) we skipped it and just put him in the bed with us so we wouldn't have to haul it around. It was also nicer not having an extra piece of furniture in the room- he liked having more room to play! We have a queen size at home and - like alot of parents - we sometimes end up with an extra body in the night so it was a treat when they messed up our reservations and we got a king, queen and pull out (though we didn't use the pull out). I agree with what others have said- when you go back to that room, you're ALL going to crash and if you're not, the baby will be so tired, he'll probably sleep through anything.

We've done this since ds was 11 mos and then when the two kids were 3 and 1, and now that they're 5 and 4. Keep in mind - our kids are used to a routine and go to bed fairly close to their bedtime of 8:00 almost always - so that likely helps this setup.

We ignore them. Just turn off the lights and say goodnight and then either lay in the dark - or, use my trick of a flashlight shining down on my book. The occasional reminder of 'it's time for sleep - goodnight' might be needed. OR, if you're really having trouble - go into the bathroom with a book. DH and I have taken turns - one of us goes down to the food court for a drink and relaxes by the pool and the other hangs in the room. After my kids are asleep we can turn on a couple lights and the tv on low if we want to - but oftentimes we're so tired that resting quietly is a good thing for us too - 6:30am will be here very soon!

We've been taking our kids since the oldest was ten months old (he is now 6) and his younger brother is two yrs. old and still sleeps in the pnp. I have found that what works for us to take one of the extra blankets in the room and wrap around the sides of the pnp to block out most of the light and then we turn off all but one light. We put both kids to bed at the same time and once they are out they are out. Luckily my kids are heavy sleepers so we can still watch tv, talk, and move about the room with no problem.

Good luck.
