Able to snag a studio for early Oct

I needed a studio for the first week of Oct. Really didn't think there would be anything so last minute (37 days out), but I was offered every DVC resort except BCV. Thought Oct was a tough time period.
We're going with VWL.

Really, I'm on a waitlist for 3 nights for an OKW in a studio the first week of October and it hasn't come in yet. How'd you do that? They only had SSR for 2 nights when I called last week. And I was lucky to get that.

I honestly don't know how I got it when you're on a waitlist ??? Maybe I just got real lucky (got a $39 DING SW fare yesterday too !). Maybe there were some cancellations ? Maybe over the weekend some decided to cancel out first thing Monday ? I called around 10:30 am for the dates listed in my siggy. Oct 4-8. I'd call tommorrow if I were you littlestar. Good luck !

We need earlier dates. October 1, 2, and 3rd. Maybe some people are cancelling because the 31 days are getting closer. I'll cross my fingers the wait list comes in. My niece decided to come with us (just last week booked her air ticket) and I'm trying to get her at least 3 nights in her own studio at OKW. The rest of us will be at VWL, BWV, and OKW. So if it doesn't come in, we'll just let her sleep on the pull-out sofa at the VWL with us for the night she's missing.

Don't you love those Ding fares? The best one I got was last December - $61.50 round trip (all taxes and fees included). We took our daughters and son-in-laws down for a long weekend and did the MVMCP. It made a great early Christmas present.

However, I do think that there is a flaw in the waitlist. I called last week to add a night to our BWV reservation. I wanted to add the night of January 1. The CM I was speaking to told me I got lucky because someone had just cancelled that night. Now I have to believe that the night of January 1st at BWV is waitlisted, so I don't see why it went to me instead of someone on the WL. I think this may be what happened to you. Just my opinion...

I've always suspected that when reservations are cancelled they can get scooped up by a lucky caller before the waitlist is run against them. Sounds like that was the case here. When DVC does systems improvements, I'd hope they'd create a holding category where these nights sit until they are cleared by the waitlist. But I ain't holding my breath.

I certainly don't blame you and I really am happy for you that you were able to get what you needed, I'm just kind of shocked there is such an obvious flaw in the waitlist.

Why wouldn't they run the cancellations against the waitlist first and then release the excess reservations? Kind of how banks run deposits first and then withdrawals afterwards each evening.

I snagged $49 last week from PHL and I've been watching for it to drop to $39 for my dates 10/14 thru 10/20, but, I didn't see anything yesterday. Today I see PHL to Ft. Lauderdale, but, nothing to MCO so far........

I got the DING for Philly to Tampa and back (10/4--10/8). I would have preferred MCO, but the lowest I'm seeing for that is $79 TO MCO and $99 back to Philly. I was in WDW until Aug 17 and I'm hoping I didn't miss any Philly-MCO DINGS for my dates while I was on vacation. Keep a close watch on the Transportation board too.........people post DINGS there all the time. Much luck to you !

However, keep watching because so far October appears to be wide open on the SW reservation screens so I'm willing to bet they will be running a $39 fare yet. Good luck......I hope you're able to get something into MCO.....by the way, how is it going into Tampa rather than MCO....other than a bit longer of a drive when you get there? We'd prefer not to have a drive at both ends because we live 2 hours up the PA turnpike from PHL so we've already got a little drive on this end.

Please don't apologize! You had no way of knowing and as I said, it certainly isn't your fault! It could happen to any of us that call for a reservation!

There is still plenty of time for something to come through but if it doesn't, maybe we'll book a few nights in a value or moderate and stay through the weekend too!

Oh, boo-hiss ! I had a feeling I missed an MCO one. Oh well......we're about 45 min north of PHL. We flew into Tampa in August with a DING too. Normally it is maybe a 1 hr 15+ min drive straight on I-4. Easy, straight driving. Unfortunately we encounterd a horrible fatal accident on Aug 5, and it took us over 2 hours to get to wdw. But generally a very straightforward drive. The Tampa airport is very nice.
