Hi,

We will be purchasing next week and just wanted to know (from people who bought direct from Disney or may even asked the same question before) were you able to negotiate with Disney on anything (i.e. deposit, price per point, etc.)? Is that at all allowed?

I know your able to negotiate with resales.

Thank You, :thumbsup2

They do not negotiate on the sales (I actually tried). You get whatever is being offered in incentives at the time. You can ask for different use year than one being offered at the time even though they don't mention that.

If you want a hard-to-get reservation in the near term, some have said their guides were able to "make magic happen" for them, as a result of their purchase. Haven't heard of any other success stories.

As others have said, Disney will not negotiate on price. You can negotiate on a few things:

1) You often will have the choice of a couple of incentives. Sometimes there is only one. It just depends on what they have running. This isn't really negotiation, since they are predefined and pretty set in stone. But you do get to decide which is better for you.

2) You can negotiate your use year, so long as they have inventory in that use year available.

3) We were able to negotiate the payment of our down payment. My situation was that if I was going to buy DVC, I would cancel my currently fully paid for reservation at Wilderness Lodge. But I didn't want to do that before I could get a guaranteed reservation somewhere else using my points. I couldn't do that before I bought. So he asked how much I could pay right now, I think it was $500. I paid that to him, and they got me in the system to make my reservation at SSR. I then cancelled my Wilderness Lodge reservation through CRO and when I got my refund I called my guide to settle up. But I had access to my points, could make reservations, get on the website, etc. before I had fully paid my deposit.

We are hoping to negotiate the down payment, maybe have him take $200.00 off the deposit or add it to our initial loan. I really wonder is that's possible...

Negotiate? Disney?

Those two words are simply not compatible...

We are awaiting our papers as well. There was some incentive and I can't remember exactly how much (still in vacation mode, we got back on Monday), but it shaved off around 800 bucks of the price.

Based on your comment about the $200, I wonder whether buying into a luxury and expensive program like DVC is the right thing for you to be doing. Don't forget you'll have annual fees, tickets, food, etc. etc. Since it appears you live in FL, at least airfare isn't a consideration.

Please don't get yourself in over your head. There's a lot of resales out there. Although no data is available, I'm sure a large amount are folks over their heads.

We have been talking about this for 2 years and we are finally ready...we just would like to save some money (I mean who wouldn't)...no biggie...we were just trying to find out if it's even possible to negotiate

Why not buy resale and negotiate the price per point, the closing costs, and the maintenance fees? We have negotiated all of the above when buying resale. There is always someone desperate to sell their contract.

That could be your first mistake. You will not save any money with DVC. You will wind up spending a whole lot more than if you did not join DVC. When the bills for the dues go out in Jan, there is a tendancy for a lot of contracts to be on sale. Dues will go up every year. Ticket prices will go up every year. Air flights or gasoline will go up every year. Food prices will go up.

We decided we were sending Disney way too much money every year, so we sold off two of our five contracts.

:)Congrats on your decision to join.....Guides really do make magic phone calls...take my stupid error in judgement. Those of you reading may laugh at any time...it was truly horrible.

DH and I booked a 9 night stay at Pop early this year cuz MIL had a 40% off code...great. She booked at Pop, too We both paid for the DDP. Fast Forward to June. DH and I decide to buy 210 points at AKV..great. We kinda seal the deal on the phone with our guide, George (who now leaps buildings in a single bound...keep reading). While on the phone with him after the "great credit" report....he books us two AKV studios with SV. We are using our incentive points and a few points from the coming year. All is well and I get my confirmation.

Well a blonde who has no idea about reservations and a DVC virgin....begins to make huge errors in judgement. Geee, I thought we really got a great deal on the Pop/DDP plan....hmmmm.....lets just cancel the AKV SV and save the points for next year......SO I DID !!

In walks DH and I explain to him what I had done and he freaks. Seems I undersetimated how much he wanted to get a pic of a girrafe this year. Oh, yes and keep in mind I am doin gthe same for MIL (with her permission of course). So I calm DH down and tell him ....."no problem, I will call DVC tomorrow morning and get the AKV rooms back":sad2:

As I if I hadn't done enough at this point...because it is so easy to get SV less than 7 months out (insert sarcasim here). I am going to be able to just get those rooms back in the morning. So I CANCELLED POP!

For those of you still reading...I now have no reservations for our trip planned in Oct. But thats OK, I'll just call MS in a.m. and get my rooms back.:sad2:
Imagine my horror, I mean true horror, throat in the pit of your gut horror...there were no rooms at AKV the following morning......:scared1::scared1::scared1:

I was in a true panic...this has been the first time in a long time that I was pacing the floor...in tears. Not only had a totally #@$%! our reservation but I had done this to my MIL as well.:scared1::scared1::scared1:

The only thing I could do was call George The Guide (yes, that is his hero title). He couldn't call me right back at first...seems he was saving a cat in a tree or something. I was hesterical when he finally called me back....voice cracking the whole bit. George saved my butt...in one call he got my AKV studios back, fixed my marriage and relationship with my MIL in one call to MS. Now I am educated and know that guides have rooms in reserve to kinda seal the deal....but I didn't freaking care how he got the rooms. Yes he insrtucted me to sit on the floor in quiet prayer...while he got me my rooms back. Gotta love that man!!

So I did write a letter to tell DVC how special George is to my family. They received it and let me know they passed it on to him...

He is my magic man!!:cutie:

Does this mean there are more contracts for sale around January?

I'd bet if you asked The Timeshare Store, they might get more contracts on the market late in the year so the member can try to sell before the annual member fees are due to DVC.

It starts before the end of the year as members begin to think about coming up with the money. Disney foreclosures seem to happen in April and May.
