Abercrombie had shirtless male employees working yesterday...

I would write a letter to the local mall and make a phone call complaining. Nothing will change unless the get complants.
You're absolutely right. I'd actually contact the stores next door and say that the behavior of their neighbor is causing them to lose business. I'm sure they'd complain to the mall as well - and get a bit further.

I didn't see it, but I don't really have a problem with it. I don't shop there anyway. Now, the last time I was at the mall I passed a kiosk that was selling drawings of celebrities. They had a bunch on display. One of them was of Bob Marley and he was smoking weed! :rotfl2: I thought that was odd, but still funny.

I'm happy to report I am indeed a prude. I believe the line was drawn long ago...perhaps this will ring a bell?? "No shoes, no shirt, no service!"

::yes:: No shoes, no shirt......no getting me to spend money with you!

I find it interesting that people are so appalled by the human body. When did a man's chest become offensive? I don't get this at all.

This store is overpriced and way to trendy for my liking but if they want to have a couple of models out front to intice people to go in, they have the right to do that and all the best to them. Lucky for them, they have things like OP to bring this to everyone's attention and offer free advertising.

What I find crazy is that some of the people here make me seem like I am rather liberal, something I have NEVER been accused of (except by my DH who is so far right, he's about to swing back around, but that's a whole other subject). Not that there is anything wrong with that, just an observation about myself. :rotfl:

This used to be very popular. You would hire models to stand in the store. Not sure it really helped, but retail will try anything.

I dont really see a big deal with it at all. Its not like they were totally strippinfg in the mall or anything. I was just buying some clothes at the Abercrombie and Fitch in jackson, they all had there shirts on though. I guess not all stores do it.

Does that mean they shouldn't expect male shoppers to wear shirts either? Just asking. How about in supermarkets? Schools? Just wondering where the line is drawn, or if there is one. :confused3

The difference is these guys are models hired to advertise the store "in" the store. They don't wander around the mall or go to the supermarket.

It's the same mentality that forced a local store owner to put shorts on a statue of Michelangelo's David that was at his store. Forget that the original was placed in front of Florence's city hall!

I don't think thats its wrong if you don't like it don't look. If they are in the store it shouldn't bother you. I personally like their clothes and if I were to go in there and there was someone with their shirt off and I didn't like it I wouldn't look or pay attencion but the thing is the age group that shops there likes that and that's why they do it not to upset you but to bring in buisness. That would be like telling some other store that they couldn't try to get people to come into their stores and shop either.

It is about the approprateness of it and the message it sends. Same as Barbies and what not for young women. We are sending a message out their to our youth that only "pefect" people are atractive and setting standards that are not achivable to everyone to meet.

It isn't about being a prude. It is about if this is appropriate advertising for a local mall.

I agree about the barbies setting standards that can't be achieved but I still stick by my opinion.

About the message this sends - So, then, it would be appropriate if the models were not attractive? See, the problem is, what you think is appropriate is obvious different from what other people think is appropriate, so you can't go by that.

I'm so glad my teen has gotten past Abercrombie and I sincerely hope his little brother doesn't decide to embrace it in middle school.

I have never dated a man named Jean-Paul. I begin to think I may have missed something there.

Allow me to highly recommend them! I spent four years with one and never grew tired of the jokes about being able to wash clothes on his stomach!!!

No big deal. We've all seen guys without shirts on. I'm thrilled that it's guys being flaunted instead of girls. I have bigger issues with some of Abercrombie's catalog then I do with this. I don't buy things there for my boys just because I think they're overpriced. I have bough A&F things on ebay. They have some really cool looking guys plaid shorts for the spring/summer that I want to get for my sons. Wait til summer when the guys have shorts on and no shirt.
Hey Dana, How did your friend get the modeling gig for them. My son would love to do something like that to help pay for college.

Really? I normally wear size six or eight pants and I'm a two or a four at Abercrombie. I find that Hollister clothing is sized smaller than normal.
I agree with this thought... Abercrombie runs rather large compared to some. I don't buy pants there, but I have found some cute sweaters on sale there. I do also agree that Hollister seems to run small (or at least made for "stick" shaped women). I also find that the Limited runs smaller in the hips than most as well. And this was true for me when I was a size 14 (less than a year ago) as it is now at a size 6.

My husband shops at both stores now and then (although I do agree, most of the clothing is *way* over priced... save the sweaters for some reason)... I see the models there all the time and now and then they do fundraisers so you can have your picture taken there with the "hotties"

truthfully, it intimidates me and I am self conscious walking into the store when the models are out! Not a prude here at all, but it makes me feel like I don't fit since I don't look like them. For that reason I wish they would stop ;)
