DH and I are considering either the Italy OR Italy and Amalfi Coast ABD trip for our anniversary next Sept/Oct. I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinion on these two trips. It'd be our first time to Italy, so the downside to the Amalfi Coast trip is there is no time spent in Rome or Venice.

Do both of these trips offer adult only trips? There were no dates listed for the Italy trip in 2016 when I looked so I couldn't see if the Adult only was an option.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you all can give! :thanks:

I have to say, as much as I loved Capri and pizza making at the Agriturismo La Galeatea Farm, you just cannot go to Italy and not see Rome and Michelangelo's David in Florence!!

The Amalfi Coast trip does include a stop in Florence! We are booked on the Amalfi Coast trip for next summer. The plan is to do pre-days on our own in Rome and then take the train to Naples.

Well, that's perfect, then!

Thank you all for the input! We did decide to book the Rome, Venice, Florence and Tuscany trip for next September. We are very excited about the itinerary and it will be a perfect way to celebrate our 1 year! For those of you going on an ABD trip in 2016, I hope you have a blast!!

Are there groups that get together to talk about their upcoming Amalfi Coast ABD trips...let the kids chat before the trip etc?

When are you going? The Amalfi Coast group thread hasn't been replied to in something like two years. We are on the June 15-22 trip. According to my TA, there are over 30 people on the trip, including quite a few kids. I guess they just don't frequent these boards.

Tayber90-what a wonderful anniversary trip!

You made a great choice...I was so surprised by how much I loved Venice (my friend had said that it was smelly and dirty and all I could think of was New Orleans...which I dislike immensely). It was lovely and romantic and I am constantly scheming to return as soon as my dear husband who pays for these trips will let me :)

Have fun planning!

We did the Viva Italia ABD and loved it. We had Marco and Dusty as guides. Both we're great and our Rome guide, Christina was great too. You'll love this trip. The Vatican Museum was a highlight, as well as all the other things you see and do.

We arrived a day early, would advise arriving 2 days early. I think you can still book the hotel on your own(less expensive) and have airport transfers included. We did a food your and that was fantastic. We did it with others that were in our group.

Loved Tuscany area and loved Venice. We also stayed one day later than most. It gave us a day to relax and just enjoy Venice.

Have a wonderful time. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you so much. I hope a new adventure is in your near future! We are looking so forward to the trip! It has always been a dream to travel to Italy. DH is most excited for Venice, I am really excited about the VIP tours in Rome, and we are both very excited about getting to drink good wine! :rotfl2:

I'm so happy to hear you had such a great experience on this tour.
Unfortunately, we both are still early on in our careers and lack a lot of extra vacation time, so we could not really manage the extensions this go around. We are arriving on a direct flight to Rome the day the trip starts and arrive at about 9am. So, thankfully we will have a full day to explore before the trip really gets kicked off. We spoke to a CM at the Italy pavilion last year on our honeymoon who gave us a hand-written list of places to go in Roma. We are considering going to Villa Borghese when we arrive to help us kick the jet-lag. :thumbsup2

We've never done An ABD trip just because we prefer to do our own thing. But we have been to Amalfi coast and Capri a couple of times. Once we flew into Palermo and drove around Sicily for a few days and then up to Amalfi. I highly recommend Sicily. Probably closer to whst Italy was many years ago. A little more rustic with villages that are still controlled by the mafia. And a lot less English spoken The ruins on Sicily are gorgeous and mt etna is beautiful. The drive along the Amalfi coast is one of the most spectacular sites you will ever see. So many great villages to stop at. We took the hydrofoil over to Capri for three nights. Incredible. If you ever get to that part of Italy while everyone focuses on Pompei outside of Naples try not to miss Paestum which are Greek ruins just south of where you enter into the Amalfi area. Right on the ocean with one of the best museums. Well worth the stop and we would never have found it if we hadn't been exploring on our own.
