GOOD! They haven't had "family" entertainment if a very long time. In fact, it's another one of the channels I don't let my kids watch much of!

Last week at 4:30 pm, there was a movie with Cher called Burlesque. I clicked on the info bar to make sure I hadn't gone the wrong way and ended up on HBO or Showtime. Cher and other characters were wearing Corsets and such singing on stage. I am far from a prude, but, don't have a movie like this with the ABC Family logo on it.

I love their 25 days of Christmas tho.

Anyways Disney bought the network and part of the deal was they needed to keep the word family in the name so some how they got around the deal.

This was my only concern when I read this. That and showing Disney movies pretty frequently on weekends. Is the content expected to change that much?

According to a news channel last night, No. Just that they wanted to target Millennials, but since the target audience is now around 40, they wanted to have a name more for that generation.

That is really just a ridiculous name. I can understand dropping "family", but Freeform....just no.

The channel is only good for the 25 days of Christmas and Harry Potter weekends. Other than that, it's one of the least family friendly channels on regular cable.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thought the new name was utterly ridiculous. I mean it sounds like a 'as seen on TV' product.

At least they admit their name no longer reflects their programming. Unlike the History Channel, TLC, MTV, and many many others.

People are going to get their content from Netflix anyways, so they can name their channel anything they want.

For the last year or so whenever we're on vacation, nobody even turns on the hotel TV. The first thing anybody says is, does the wifi work? And then checks the weather, email, and watches their shows on their phone or tablet.

Well you know Netflix just raised their prices too...

Anyways Netflix isn't just hurting what is now freeform but every other cable network as well.

I'll the the first to admit my kids probably watch some shows they shouldn't and I'm not as strict as I could be. . . . but ABC Family was full of shows that were inappropriate for my family. So I'm glad for this name change. Makes sense to me!

I was just watching Holiday in Handcuffs on their app last night. For the first time I was actually sitting down and LISTENING carefully. Yeah..... A lot of not so kid friendly content.

That's because the channel has no set vision it's free form.

Understood. I am just not a big fan of name/marketing. Somehow I have a feeling there are some program guidelines that could have crafted a little more focused vision. I doubt you will be seeing skin flicks, graphic horror films, independent short arthouse films, or an educational series on kitchen safety appearing anytime soon.
