Abbreviations

I really enjoy this board, and I love Disney. However my time spent here is very casual. I don't get a chance to look at all the threads and I don't go to many other Disney sites (I go to the offical site for trip planning, yesteryear.com which is a great site about past Disneyland attractions and allears usually just for the menus).

Many things are written about in abbreviations here. A bunch are obvious, especially when you read the threads. The resorts are pretty easy, as you just have to look at a list of the resorts on property. D-relations took me a little while, but I got that down pretty well now. However there are times I have no idea what people are talking about. Usually I don't ask, although I don't see why I shouldn't.

Do people just make things up on the fly? Has there ever been an abbreviations listing thread. If not, can this be the start of one?

dbanzi, it's a contageous disease, these abbreviations! You'll start thinking in letters rather than words after a few months on the boards.

I have a PhD, I'm intellectually sound, and I swore I would never 'lower' myself to abbreviations on the boards. I lasted about 3 months and now, after 5 years here, I have to remind myself it's 'Magic Kingdom' or 'husband' rather than MK or DH! :teeth:

Stick with it. You'll get it in no time.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I'll be talking to someone about WDW and I'll start talking in abbreviations. They look at me as if I am talking a foreign language. :rotfl: Then I catch myself and have to explain just what it was that I had said.

LOL. ITA. IMO, it is just because it becomes tiresome when you have to type out the complete words for things you type frequently. It took me long enough to learn all the general internet acronyms, then coming here, there were about a million more Disney related acronyms to learn.

Yup, I've gotten to where I think & talk with these abbreviations...never thought it would happen to ME! :rotfl:

It also helps those of us who are, shall we say, spelling challenged :-) , if you only have to type a few letters instead of full names.

Okay, I looked at the list and ITA isn't on it...and that's one I've never been able to figure out. So what is it? LOL

"My name is Cleo and I'm an abbreviation junkie. It's been 3 hours since my last abbreviation......."

There must be a support group for it....somewhere.

The wdwinfo list is great! I'm laughing now to see some of the non-Disney listings there.

ttfn. ;)
