AACcckkkkkkk!!!! Why do they keep insisting?

Family members keep insisting I carry kids birth certificates with me. I have checked with Delta, the local airport and everybody I can ask to find out why and family are the only ones that say I need them!

According to Delta (both customer service and a friend who works there) says domestic flights do not require ID for children under 18 if accompanied by guardian and no discounted fares.

First of all, I don't have time to hunt them up and secondly, I'm afraid I'll lose them on the trip and have to pay another $25 when I get back just to replace them.

What would you do?????????????????????????? Leaving in 24...

TSA Guidelines state that only those 18 and older need them.

We have flown with DD at 13 months and then again just last week at 23 months with a paid seat both times and did not have her birth certificate with us. If your child has a paid seat you should not need their birth certificate. Maybe you could compromise and take a copy of their birth certificates if it's going to cause problems in the family - although I would just not take them and go have a great vacation.

we flew Southwest when daughter was 6 months and needed it.. really bad.. big mess.. which I totally understand.. its for our security... this last time they didn't ask.. I think its just random... I would carry it.

I've flown with DD5 six times (always with a paid seat, although discounted til she was 2) and DS2 two times (again, paid, discounted seat). I have never been asked to show anything for my kids. It would not even occur to me to bring them along, I'm too nervous about identity theft to want to carry them with me. If TSA says you don't need them under 18, then I wouldn't bring them.

The only thing that I'm pretty sure there are additional requirements for are if one parent is taking a child out of the country - I think you need written permission from the other parent to do it (in addition to identification / passport reqs).

I'm leaving Saturday for WDW and will not be brining any ID for my kids. I do live 40 minutes from the airport and will be there 2 hours in advance, so I suppose I could always drive home and back if it were absolutely necessary, but I would just direct the airline person back to the TSA requirements.

I just flew SWA last weekend with DD5 and nobody asked to see it.

I fly at least once a year with my DD13 and have never needed an ID, she flew alone to Seattle two years ago and only I needed ID to drop her off, my sister needed it to pick her up at SeaTac and I needed to when she came home. She needed no id. Only thing I ever needed her birth certificate for was a cruise.

We flew with DD age 3 a few weeks ago and didn't need her BC although I did have it with me. I think the main reason more and more people are starting to carry them is because of the no fly lists. It seems that sometimes people with similar names to those on the lists are having problems. If you don't have it with you and run into one of those issues it could delay your flight. Good Luck.

I have been flying with my DDs since they were babies and noone has ever asked to see them. I do know that sometimes they question if they have a DIFFERENT last name than you or if you are traveling out of the country. I don't even carry them with me. Personally I don't even think twice about it. Orlando International has never asked me for the.

I have extra copies on hand, anyways, so throw one in the bag when we travel. I've never had to show it, but at least it is there if we need it!

I've never needed one for DS even when I didn't purchase a ticket for him and he was under 2. However, I think Southwest does require a birth certificate if the child is under 2 and is a lap baby.

I've flown Delta, US Air, and Continental and not had any issues. Check the airline website if you want to make sure. On the flip side, I know many people who have said their 2 year olds weren't 2 yet to get them in as lap babies and they all got away from it. (In our case, DS hit 35 pounds at 18 months and is tall too, so there was no way we could get away with it. Also, due to his size, I felt better about him having his own seat).

We have never had to show a birth certificate for dd. The only time we needed any id for her was when we flew internationally, and for that she needed a passport.

You shouldn't have any problems without them.

We have shrunken copies of our birth certificates that I just always have in my purse - they are laminated and certified, so work the same. I just like to have it just in case.

I've flown with my kids so many times, there is no way to keep count. I've never been asked for ID. We even flew this past summer to Maui with the baby and no one questioned it and we are adopting him. But the airlines don't know that. I wouldn't stress about it.

We brought ours in Nov. for my 15mo old because she was a lap baby. We flew SWA and they did ask for her certificate. This time she was 2 and we bought her a seat, we didn't need it for anything. Only bring the birth cert. for that reason, otherwise you don't need it for anything anywhere.

We took the kids passports and were asked to see them when we flew Seattle to Orlando and Seattle to San Jose.
