This is to all those people who have booked vacations through a AAA travel agent before. How were your experiences? Was the TA helpful? Were they able to accommodate you when you had questions, special requests, etc.?

Also, how do any travel documents work? Will all my stuff be sent to AAA (DME, final confirmation, etc.?)

And how did they handle your final payment? I gave the deposit, and know that I have to pay the balance of my package by the end of August... so do I just go back to AAA when I want to pay the balance? Or will they do it automatically?

Sorry to be so clueless. I'm usually a control freak and like to handle everything myself, but I was able to save some money by handing over power to a AAA TA. But now I'm wondering if I should be regretting that decision...

(BTW... Going Oct. 13-18... Staying at POP... MNSSHP 10/13)

I used AAA. It is worth it for the discount. They do not specialize in Disney vacations so they generally aren't as knowledgeable as a agent who works for a company that specializes in Disney Travel. If you know what you want and stay up to date with current discount codes, you will be OK. Some of the Disney specialized travel agencies will automatically rebook for you if a discount code comes up. I am not sure if AAA will do that or if you have to them to do it. I check the boards every day, subscribe to mousesavers and have a Disney Visa. If a discount codes comes up for my trip, I will know it. If it does, I will call my AAA travel agent and have her rebook my trip. If not, I will still have my AAA discount.

I think that you can have another travel agent book for you on a room only discount and get the AAA discount. If you want to get a package with the AAA discount, you have to use them

I have used AAA for disney many times. It truly dpends on your agent. Some have gone thru the disney training program and like to travel there themselves so they are very knowledgeable. Some are not too smart. My agent was willing to do all my work for me(adrs etc) I chose to do my own, simply because my ta does not get in to the office till 0800( 1hr after dining opens) she was willing to make the calls from home but I did it myself. The balance can either be Credit card over the phone, check mailed in, check dropped off in the office.Once the final payment is made they will put together your travel pkg.I was told I had to pick mine up in the office so my Ta could review and answer questions. If it is too much trouble, they can mail it to you.AAA also set up my towncar for me, confirmed my adrs, set up babysitiing.they would have done my airfare, but I found a cheaper price elsewhere.

As PP stated, it all depends on your travel agent. Our TA loves Disney herself. She has Disney stuff all through her office. I only book through AAA because we want the room discount along with the DDP. You can only do that through AAA. We stop in a little while before our trip and pick up our package and she explains everything to us. (Not that she really needs to but it does add to the excitement cause we do it about a week before we go.) I make all my ADRs myself. I can't give up all control. I am kinda a control freak!:rolleyes1 I am in Southern Indiana. If anyone needs the name of a great AAA rep, just PM me. (Hang tight if I don't answer right away. Only been able to log on here on Sundays for the past few weeks.)

We used our local AAA agent for our December trip and I found it frustrating.

When the discounts came out for our time frame, she was "busy" all day and couldn't check to see if we could get a better deal for our stay and we missed it. Only because I raised a HUGE stink did we manage to get them to apply the discount.

I just don't feel the small discount was worth all the agita I went through for it.

Dd and I are going in July and we went w/ DU for the first time and I'm really impressed. We've made changes twice and our TA has been extremely helpful and thorough. I'm willing to forgo the small discount to have someone competent handle our trips!
