I'm thinking about applying for a travel agent position with AAA. Are there any current or past AAA travel agents on here who might be willing to give me a ball park starting salary range for an entry level position?

It depends on where you live, AAA clubs are different in each region. For example, I worked for AAA SNE, and it was a whole company running itself under the AAA header, think of it as a franchise. When I was hired by them, I had 8 years experience and was making 42,000. My club didn't hire entry level, so I can't help you with that...sorry

It depends on what state you'd be working in. We're paid hourly plus quarterly commission. A lot of the AAA positions are listed through career builder. You can try doing a search for your area and see if they list what the starting salary/hourly rate would be. You can PM me if you have questions.

I don't know what they pay but wanted to say I recently applied for this position at a local AAA. The job was advertised as entry level, no experience, but when all was said and done I was told I had no experience. :confused3

My friend works at a California AAA for 15+ yrs. She said where she is at the start at around 12 an hr. Her office has quotas and vacation time hard to get and then its a few days here and there. Vacation is planned only a few months at a time and tenored gets it first. She hasnt had one in a few years.

That just seems so wrong.

Right now, at this very minute, I'm helping DH across the world as he deals with a really annoying TA oversight (if your flight gets into Narita and their second flight leaves from Haneda, you need to TELL the client this in actual words, not just assume they'll see the airport codes and work it out). I got to find all the ways he could get from one to the other as he went through customs. This is something we feel the TA should know and say out loud when they are earning constant commissions from a department of a company.

Unfortunately, it's HARD to know this stuff unless you travel. Like one of his first work trips when they had him on a US airline to Sidney then Qantas to Adelaide, with half an hour between flights, but at Sydney you have to come all the way OUT of the secure area with your bags, check bags, and go back through security. It's just the way it is. And you only know that if you've traveled. (he was getting into line to check his bag with Qantas as his flight took off...what a fabulous feeling)

So I think it's wrong wrong wrong that an agency doesn't make travel easy for their travel agents.

Thanks for all your feedback! I went ahead and applied for the position. $12/hour is pretty low, but I'm interesting in finding out more about the quarterly bonuses. The benefits package seems pretty good as well.
