Hi!

Can anyone tell me their experience with a room only AAA discount? I would be willing to get a membership to AAA if it meant getting a % off discount for a deluxe resort.

Does AAA have blackout dates like Disney does? Can you only get them a few months ahead of time, also like Disney?

Or once you have a membership and want to book, does Disney just give you the discount?

I'm going crazy waiting for a room only discount for the first week of November, I'm willing to take drastic measures, LOL!!!

Thanks for any help! Heidi.

I've used the AAA discount a few times and the discount rate has usually been in the 10 - 20% range, depending on the resort and the dates. If you use the AAA Discount, you do not need to go through AAA to make the reservation (for room only). You can call WDW reservations directly and ask for the discount. Also, I have been asked for my card (at check in) when I've used the AAA discount.

I'm not 100% certain, but I would have to guess that there are a limited number of rooms available with the AAA discount, just like with almost all discounted reservations at a WDW resort.

Since you're looking for a room in November, I would suggest calling WDW reservations now to see what is available and what the rate is.

Just to add on to the great information outahere gave you.

There are blackout dates. Generally, the holidays (Easter, Christmas) are blacked out. They DO release the complete inventory of AAA-discounted rooms at the beginning of the year. So no, it's not really seasonal. You can call now to see if the discount is available for any dates in 2012.

Or once you have a membership and want to book, does Disney just give you the discount?

No, they don't just give it to you. You need to ask. Your AAA membership number and expiration date will be required to book the reservation. Some will give you the price without the number - some won't. The ones that won't are getting to be very, very few.

Price out the rack rate of the room, then call and inquire about a AAA discount. Once you know what the discount is, you know if it's worth it to buy the membership. I would let you know that IF you remember that you have the darn membership - it can save you some money around your town, too. Discount attraction tickets (movies, local venues) are available. And I've used their roadside assistance more than once.

Hope that helps! :)

Thank you so much for the helpful information, I really appreciate it!!

My dates are blacked out for FD this November, so I have to assume that the room-only discounts will be blacked out too. I'm desperate for a deal of some kind, lol!!

Thanks again, Heidi.

You should call Disney. They maybe have some room only discount. You can book the room now and when or if AAA discount do come out for Nov., you can call again and have the discount apply.

The aprox dates you mention sound like they similar to mine. Are you looking for a discount for dates between 1-9 Nov?
I registered dh for an account with disney, saved several trips (various dates/resorts within 1-9 Nov), and about a week later he got a 20% discount offer that includes the first week and a half of Nov. No guarantee this will work, but it might be worth a try. Free dining blackout dates don't necessarily correspond to other offers being available. I'd still call about AAA, too.
I never pay rack rate. If I can't get any other discount, I do AAA room only, even if it means I have to change my 1st choice resort to get it. It's not a lot, but it certainly helps! You can always change to another discount if it's offered later on for your dates.

I've been calling WDW reservations to see if I have a PIN code, nothing. And I don't want to make my ADR's until I know where we will be staying since we eat a lot in/near the resort. Right now I have BC booked rack rate, but like the PP mentioned, I would never pay that. I just wanted SOMETHING!! lol!!

As gwynne said, FD blackout dates don't necessarily correspond to AAA blackout dates. I would definitely call to check.

I'm not sure of your exact dates, but I just went on the AAA website and they have the Beach Club listed from Nov. 3 through 10 at about $350 less than on the Disney site. You can call Disney and see what they say because you can always book with a AAA discount and then try and apply any better discount that may come along.

Does AAA have blackout dates like Disney does? Can you only get them a few months ahead of time, also like Disney? Yes they have blackout dates. And like Disney promos, there are only a certain number of rooms per resort allotted for the AAA discount.

Or once you have a membership and want to book, does Disney just give you the discount? As PPs have said, you need your membership number to book.

See above. I used to work at AAA. Generally speaking, the discount is usually 10% off the room. Rarely is it more. If you book a whole package with AAA and book it at AAA, you do get other benefits such as preferred parade viewing, parking pass, discount pass, etc.

I booked the BC from November 23rd for the free dining package. WE are arriving on Thanksgiving Day though. The CM asked me if I had AAA and applied the discount on my room only reservation. She said to make sure that I have my card when we check in though. I would call and ask a CM to figure out the discount for you.

I booked today. And since I couldn't get free dining, I requested the AAA discount. I got 15 % off a garden view room at Port Orleans French Quarters. Which for my stay was about $170.
Definteily doesn't hurt to ask.

To get the discount I had to give her my AAA number over the phone and I have to show the card at the resort when I check in.
