I have never booked through the AAA web site because I think that they charge an agents fee. If you go to their web site and look at the rate information for a hotel, after the tax information, it says Agent: 10 Percent.
I use the site to find out the rates that are available, and then call CRO to book the room.
Here in Buffalo, there is no agent's fee charged to book online.
Go to www.aaa.com, enter your zip code and see what happens. The reservation itself isn't made online. It works (at least in Buffalo) similar to Dreams UNlimited, where you fill out a form, and an agent makes all the reservations for you.
That 10% is charged to AAA the member doesn't have to pay it. But I will agree that I look for the rates on-line and then call. The AAA site is not the most user friendly.
