Just a note for anyone reserving a room at POR using the AAA rate. When I called a few weeks back, I asked for the AAA rate and the CM quoted $140 (for Oct 13-20). The rack rate was $149, so I was a little surprised since that's not even a 10% discount. I even went to the AAA site and was quoted the same rate of $140 per night.

When I called the other day with a question, the CM commented about me having a waterview, which I didn't ask for. That made me start thinking, so today, I thought I would call reservations just to make sure that the $140 was the only AAA rate for POR.

Well, lo and behold, there was a AAA rate for a standard room of $126 per night. So, by calling, I saved around $110. YEAAAHHHH!

The moral is to make sure that you're not being charged for something you didn't ask for.

Oh,and by the way......after planning this trip for the last 500 days.....I AM BELOW 100 DAYS!!!!! Only 96 days to go. Whoo Hoo

I had the exact same thing happen to me this week for POFQ. They seem to ASSUME you want the best room in their eyes. Almost makes me think they are on commission which I do not thingk they are. I felt I should have been asked my preference. Then, she proceeded to quote me for 5 people not 5 days. the rate was well over $1000..... I asked her where she was booking me since we had allready discussed that we were two people for 5 nights........ She had typed it in wrong and was flustered because I caught her giving me the higher priced room....... Listen carefully when you call is all I can say and have your calcator handy to double check what she is charging you.

Sometimes the AAA discount is only available with certain views/room types. You can keep checking back to see if a different room type becomes available with the discount. On the same note, sometimes certain resorts won't have availability w/the discount at all.

Also, AAA members should be able to log-in on aaa.com and view any available discounted room types. If you know what the rack rate should be, you'll see the difference in what is offered.

I definitely agree to make sure the room type you're reserving is what you want. I would also be sure to specify what you want (standard room or king bed) from the beginning.

Hope this helps!

I just booked POFQ..asked for standard view..when she confirmed she said waterview..I said no I wanted standard..she replied she thought she would be get me the nicest view as it was our anniversary..lol-at my expense-lol.

Not on commission but they are on a revenue basis, which they have to meet. I guess you can say they have a quota to meet.

GLad to hear you saved some money! I'm looking at a few options... Just curious....Does that $126 rate include tax?

Thanks.

Yes ::yes:: this is true. I orginally tried to book YC with the AAA discount but only waterview rooms were available. While it might have been a savings on a waterview room I really wanted the discount off a standard room so the CM offered me BC. Since I had called on the first day when the AAA discounts were released the CM was assuming that they wouldn't be offered on standard rooms at YC because they can fill those with conventioneers.

No, tax wasn't included. I think the total for the 7 nights ended up being $983 or so with tax.
